I have decided to start this petition in an attempt to get Central Health and James Paton Memorial Hospital to put other options in place for those children that need on-going care and access to pediatric services.

Currently the pediatric clinic at the James Paton Memorial Hospital in Gander is only open on Monday afternoons each week. The time between follow up appointments ranges from 4-5 months. While the hospital has been attempting to recruit more peditricans, only 1 is currently handling this single afternoon clinic. This is definitely not an acceptable situation for the doctor or the children that require care.

My son was diagnosed with ADHD in October 2011. Since he started school in 2008, I have had many dealings with the Central Health Care system; primarily the pediatric clinic. What I have learned is that children in the Central region have very limited access to the pediatric services they require on an on-going basis.

I feel it is time for Central Health and James Paton Memorial Hospital to put other options in place for those children that need on-going care and access to pediatric services. My hope is that by having other parents who have children affected by limited access to services sign this petition, we can get the people in charge of these services to provide additional options to our children going forward.

Seeing the response build up is exhausting but it proves that so many of you are living through the same frustration I deal with every day. I am tired of the silence from the hospital administration but this momentum gives me the resolve to keep pushing for the care our children actually deserve.

My daughter has been waiting over 4 months for a follow up. It is ridiculous that we have to wait that long for such basic care. Something needs to change soon.

Gander deserves better than this. 1 afternoon a week is a joke for the whole region. Kids are suffering while they drag their feet on hiring.
