We just moved back to RI and would love to have our chickens again, the way how we did it in Massachusetts. We need to promote a healthy lifestyle in RI. Dogs and cats are ok, and fresh eggs from chickens are not ok?

I think this state needs to wake up. I live on 1 acre of land in Warwick and I have a tick problem. Owning chickens would not only teach my child responsibilities on raising her own food and being independent to a certain degree. It would also assist in getting rid of these Lyme carrying parasites.

A lot of states have changed their ordinances, including NY & areas with limited space. I understand not allowing Rousters as they can be noisy but hens, come on RI, catch up with the rest of the green earth

I live in Warwick, my yard is huge & private and my 2 neighbors love the idea. I want to raise hens to provide my family with fresh eggs and its a great experience for my kids.

My neighbor can have up to 3 barking dogs, but I cannot have 2 clucking chickens? This is just plain ridiculous!

Chickens supply fresh eggs that are more nutritious than the store bought ones, keeping a small flock is better for the animals' welfare than huge commercial operations; their care fosters empathy and resilience in children (a well known benefit of keeping pets), they control ticks and other pests on the property without chemicals (save the bees), and they supply a source of rich fertilizer to help grow healthy landscapes and vegetable gardens which will not leach excess nitrogen into our sensitive waterways. They are easy to care for and do not require a lot of space. Hens are generally quiet and peaceful. They don't bark or bite or get loose and crap on peoples lawns like dogs can.
