We, the undersigned, citizens of Sri Lanka and America, with utmost regard for the government institutions of this country, urge the United States Senate to:
(1) Ensure the protection of Tamil civilians in the Northern areas still under the control of the LTTE by making a public request that the LTTE stop the shooting of innocent civilians and allow them to relocate to government and UNHCR and Red Cross maintained zones of safety;
(2) Help correct the imbalance in reporting among the mainstream media within the United States with regard to its portrayal of the LTTE as being synonymous with all Tamils;
(3) Recognize that the majority of Tamil civilians do not support the LTTE which has been deemed a terrorist organization by the US and its allies in the European Union;
(4)Maintain America's vigilance, as shown in TG-22 on February 11th, 2009, in preventing the transmitting of funds from American and Canadian residents to a banned terrorist organization;
(5) Continue its support of the Sri Lankan government in its attempt to eradicate the island of the terrorist organization, the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam), and to further the cause of unity and peace for all Sri Lankan Sinhalese and Tamils;
(6) Assist the Sri Lankan government in its attempt to preserve the multi-religious, multi-ethnic nature of its history and socio-cultural conduct of life;
(7) and ensure that the intimately twined lives of peace-loving Sinhalese and Tamils in Sri Lanka are not harmed by misinformation and manipulation of elected officials in the United States
The feedback received thus far confirms that many individuals desire a realistic portrayal of the situation in Sri Lanka. I am currently compiling your collective perspectives to present to the relevant offices in the Senate.

Sinhalese and Tamils lived together for years. We can do it again if the terrorists are gone.

The media coverage here is so one sided and it drives me crazy. People need to know the truth about what is actually happening on the ground.

Enough with the violence. Both sides have suffered too much already. Just want to see my home at peace again for once.
