Also, expand waiver to allow students who are professional gymnasts (or other dedicated sports) and spend 8-20 HOURS a week in the gym to omit PE. This is a rediculous requirement for these gifted athletes.

My daughter marched in Florida for 5 years.....8th through 12th. They counted it as a PE requirement and rightfully so. Those kids work their tails off. They also want to several competitors throughout the school year. Marching is an extremely physical activity and should count as a PE course.

Band and any other physical sport should absolutely count as a substitute for Physical Education (PE) in the state of Georgia.

Provisions are made for athletic students and ROTC students. All students should be treated fairly and equal.

I was in Marching band in HS and it definitely was a workout carrying around 35 lb drums for 2 hours.

My daughter marched in high school and I can tell you that she got an extremely good workout.
As someone said before, they start practicing in the summer and continues on into the fall. I don’t think PE can compete with that.

I moved here from Illinois where marching band waived PE. After doing research and kids wearing pedometer, marching kids were more active than PE students.

My daughter is in Marching Band and says that she doesn't do even half the physical exertions in PE. She said that Marching Band should in included in the Olympics!

The marching arts is a rigorous and extremely intense physical activity. Students prepare their competitive show during the late summer months and continue into the later half of the Fall semester. They are consistently pushed to condition their bodies in extreme conditions (some while carrying instruments that way minimum of 30 lbs.) The marching arts should not only be considered an extracurricular activity, but also a physical activity.

Marching band and Drumline are very rigorous. It’s a no brainer that they should count towards PE credit.

The intensive and extensive hours these kids put into rehearsals and band camp far exceed the PE requirements.
I agree!

A superior workout than PE.
100 percent in support.
Common sense.
This is more exercise than PE
Absolutely support this!
