PE credit for Marching Band

As a four-year member of my high school’s marching band, I believe that this is in fact a sport that requires discipline, training, and strength amongst other things. I believe normal PE classes are a waste of time/not taught proficiently and I would have rather had the option of a marching band style PE class 100 times over than just sitting on the gym ground on my phone.

I believe that marching teaches us about responsibility and should be counted as pe credit

Trust me, marching band is without a doubt physical enough to count as a PE credit.

My high school does this, and it gives more time for the students to do what they love. You do get a lot of exercise in marching band, each student would tone up because of marching. It would mean the world to them to have marching band count as a p.e credit.

Students are taught to do incredilous things with their bodies in marching band. They train for a show that is only 6-8 minutes, but they practice that until each set/count/move/choreography is executed well. If that doesn’t count as Physical education, how would P.E. be described? And what does a sport mean? "Sport means all forms of physical activity, which through casual or organised participation, aim at expressing or improving physical fitness and mental well-being, forming social relationships or obtaining results in competition at all levels". And marghing band is just that. Even winterguard, winterline, and winterwinds.

Marching band is harder than pe. The practices are longer than a regular pe class. You will just the physical exercise you need in marching band. I know because I am in marching band and it is way harder than pe not anyone could be in it. I hope you win because I love band ❤️

Happy to see a school taking action in this! Marching band is just as much, if not more, of a physical activity as any sport or PE activity. I wish the best of luck to you in this!! ❤️

I remember having to wait for my school to make marching season count for pe credits. Let's hope yours goes through faster than mine did.

I fully support this petition, I think that marching band should be considered equally as physically demanding as P.E..

We just started a P.E. Waiver at our school a couple years ago, and I think it’s ridiculous not to have one!!! Do you SEE all the physical work it takes?

Marching band is and extremely physically taxing sport. You work to memorize spots on a field and you have to get there by a style that makes your legs burn after only half the show. All done while playing and holding up an instrument(it hurts after a while), it is above a pe class where you play golf and badminton. Unlike pe you are guaranteed a workout at marching band rehearsal(cardio, muscle training, as well as a cognitive workout). It deserves to be a or credit.
