PE credit for Marching Band

They do far more marching in band then they do in any PE period.

I strongly urge you to consider this request as the marching band program provides high quality physical education instruction. I believe that with appropriate coordination, planning and partnership, the various facets of meeting the eight content areas can be achieved. From an exercise perspective, I believe that the marching band is actually more rigorous than a normal PE class. I also suspect that by allowing some of your higher performing students the opportunity to take mind broadening or deeper learning electives, we might also see improvements in College Acceptance rates.

My child is a dedicated member of Live Oak's Marching Band. The physical demands of the program are highly rigorous. As a freshman, there were many times when my student was required to run a mile in PE class and later, the same day, run an additional mile as a warm-up during Marching Band practice. Without the approval of PE credit for Marching Band my child will need to take PE during their senior year instead of having the opportunity to take another academic or elective class. I strongly urge MHUSD to approve a reasonable option for earning PE credits through participation in Marching Band.

There is no reason that this petition SHOULDN'T go through! My husband and I have gone through this program and now our two son's are involved in it. These kids are on their feet, marching, dancing, running and learning choreography at least 19 hours PER WEEK! They are constantly repeating their movements to get them as close to perfection as possible. You get about four hours of PE time per week during regular school hours.If you offer a Dance class for PE credit, then you most definitely should honor it for Marching Band! It's dance, but harder. So, compare 19 hours to 4. It doesn't make sense why they don't get the credit! Many other school districts have been honoring PE credit to their marching bands for decades. Why is Morgan Hill always the last? It's time for a change!

I'd hate to give up the Emerald Regime or any of my elective or AP classes, but as it is I will eventually be forced to give some of those up if marching band PE credits aren't granted.

Marching band helps a child grow as a person and they should not have to choose between it and ajother class

Band should be part of p.e. they are very active holding heavy equitment marching in unison together. The band is full of talent please allow this to allow there dreams to come true.

This would help so many band students and alow them to take a different class than PE to further their education.

Completely support this, to full fill all the graduation requirements and be competitive for college applications it's nearly impossible to do 4 years of marching band and the required two years of PE. Many other district's count matching band as PE Credit.

Marching practice starts before school even starts. Practices are from 9am to 9pm
