Being in marching and color guard is more than walking on the field. These kids work hard physically everyday. Most of these kids lose weight and become healthier.

I agree and am saddened it was not already implemented.

Accepting marching band as PE would help students pursue music while taking classes required to enter college. We need to support our students.

PE, Physical Exercise, is achieved in a variety of areas. My children attend Valley Christian High School and after freshman year if they are involved in Drama they fulfill their PE requirements. The physical exercise required in these other interests like drama and marching band are long overlooked. Students who are not interested in traditional sports should be acknowledged and validated for their physical effort in their passion. I encouraged my children, one a boy the other a girl to pursue their desire to get involved in drama and feel that enabling them to use these classes to fulfill PE requirements supports them and their choice to choose the physical exercise that best suites their ability and expertise.

I believe that the amount of rigorous stuff the typical band player goes through should be enough to get at least a smidge more PE credit

Marching band is an excellent work out and far more strenuous than most PE classes. The band members have been requesting this for over 20 years. It’s time to make the change and give Marching Band and Color Guard members PE credit!

The student, that I mentor, at Live Oak, works 20 times harder at marching band than my step children ever did back in the 80’s. He has to give up a period to band and then give up hours to practice. This makes him have less time to take AP classes for a he UC system. Then he has take classes in PE at the junior college during the summer.

I love all the kids in band. They are great students, and they just need credits to graduate. They have been in so much work and dedication on the field in the summer and during the school year. They marched their butts off; it is only right if we do this. I am dedicated to them as much as they are dedicated to this program! #GoNuts #EmeraldRegime

This would be extremely helpful and make it less stressful when it comes to deciding classes.
