PE credit for Marching Band

The amount of physical work it takes to do this activity rivals the amount of work college or professional athletes put in. The fact that this isn’t counted as a PE credit is a shame. Other schools around the country have been counting this activity as pencredit since I was in high school in 2002.

Our grandkids want to be in band when they get to H.S.

I have been apart of the Band and Color Guard since my seventh grade year, and it’s the thing that has gotten me and kept me in shape since then. Marching Band is just as physically challenging as any other sport or class out there. Please take this into consideration. Thank you.

I just want PE credit for the marching band.

This should be obvious. Between the push ups, running, and marching with instruments for many hours each week, marching band is much more of a workout than a PE class.

My brother works so unbelievably hard in marching band.

Help my brother get the credits he needs to graduate.

My daughter did marching band all 4 years at Sobrato and it was quite rigorous. (She was also a varsity cross country runner so I believed her when she mentioned the fatigue factor and work involved in the marching band practices!)

I was in the Emerald Regime for a short while during my sophomore year at Live Oak. It was extremely physically demanding, far more than any PE class. Marching band should count as PE credit.

I was able to get PE credit for my time in marching band when I was in high school, so I support continuing this tradition.

Marching band kids do a lot of physical work at each and every practice, football games, performances/competitions. The amount of time for the whole season is more than a whole schoolyear of PE. For this reason, being in marching band should get kids PE credit.

Marching band should qualify as PE!

As far as the rest of the state is concerned our Morgan Hill marching band kids are taking double the amount of PE classes. Is it just wellfare for PE teachers?

Marching Band & Guard received this type of PE credit back in the 70's at Live Oak High.

My three children were in marching band and had to make up their P.E. credits at Gavilan. Honestly, the music program was the main reason we didn't send them somewhere else. It was a huge reason for their engagement and participation in high school, from playing in the orchestra pit, to playing in the marching and jazz bands. Don't give up this important program and allow your talented music teachers to earn a living wage.

Music and Arts are just as important as sports. Having a child in Jr High who has just found his love for playing an instrument, I would hope there is a music program for him once he reaches high school.

We need music in our schools

When I was in high school in San Jose, marching band counted as PE for everyone over freshman year. It is ridiculous that sports count for credit but not marching band.

Carrying those instruments are definitely physical fitness and great endurance.
