Marching band students should earn PE credits for the incredible physical effort that goes into the practices and performances.

Marching band is undoubtedly more physically and mentally exhausting and taxing than PE class is. The simple fact that we're outside on our feet for 4-8 hours a day alone should provide grounds to count the program as a PE program. Let alone the two straight weeks during the summer under the summer heat, the running we do before every rehearsal, the physical exercise required, etc. The fact that we haven't yet seen any progress in obtaining PE credentials for either marching band director in MHUSD is ridiculous.

Numerous schools in the San Jose school district already allow Marching Band as PE credit. Plus, one season of band is equivalent to one whole year of PE. What are we waiting for?

Absolutely agree. Considering the large amounts of time children spend on the band program, this will be the right move to recognize their efforts fully.

Band and Colorguard and very challenging and hard to do and it takes energy, determination, and dedication like any other sport. This needs to be a P.E. credit!

The only people who truly understand how physically challenging marching band/color guard is are the preformers, the parents, and the diresctors. Marching band had put me into shape in as little as two months. It really should count for a physical credited class.

I support giving PE credit for Marching Band. The students rehearse and march 12+ hours per week. The rehearsals are strenuous. Our Band Directors are credentialed to teach Physical Education. We should be in line with other surrounding school districts. In addition this allows band students room in their schedule to take additional classes.

Marching Band should be considered PE because of all the work they do day and night. That's considered as a hard work out for the students.

The best way to prove how demanding is marching band on the physical conditioning and practicing of marching band students, please come out to join their practices in the afternoons and evenings after school and on the weekend.

The marching band often times works harder than the football team. If you need a compromise, say you need TWO years of marching band for one full credit.

This concept isn’t something new. Students across the country have been fulfilling their half credit (or how many credits they need) of PE via marching band for years. Please catch up.

When I was in colorguard and band, i was always sweating and active. This kept in shape during my high school years. I also became very flexible and was able to do a lot of tumbling moves and acrobatics.
