Marching band is extremely difficult, I can say as a fellow student. May I say they work is quite hard, at one point I had a 14 hour practice. Much longer than other sports practices, yet it was not any easier. Especially with such heavy and hot clothing on, everyone in band is a family and a community, and those performances are extremely difficult for all. I do not see why it is not marked as a sport itself.

It should also count for CTE credit because it meets all the requirements!

Marching band is a sport. It is challenging not only physically but mentally and memorizing shows, routines, and music require mental and physical ability.

Put simply.... Marching Band should count for PE. We march 7 to 13 minute shows multiple times per practice and also play an instrument at the same time which makes it even more of a workout.

I am a Sousaphone player this means that I am carrying a 35 pound instrument on my shoulders for about 10-14 hours every week during marching band season. We also march /walk more than 2-3 miles every practice. This is more than what most PE classes do. Why then are we not allowed to receive PE credit for the marching band season. We take our free time on Saturdays and during breaks and during the summer to march around and prepare a show. We also must be playing an instrument while marching for hours and hours. Then we look at the PE classes which require us to run maybe half a mile every day except for one day where we run a mile, and play some games for about 4.5 hours in a school week. We will end up doing more in one semester of marching band than most PE classes do in two. Why then do we not receive PE credit. I am a Junior and I have a lot of classes I need to take, which means that I will end up having to take zero period PE (if the school lets me) which is even more difficult considering the other commitments I have. People will say that I should just leave marching band but that is like asking someone to move away from a their family. As freshman, before we have our every day classes we go to band camp for two weeks, and there these new freshman are welcomed into the band and accept an important role as a member of the band. When they then start school we have 50+ friends that we can go to for help with school or just need friends. So to ask us to leave this family is not something to be considered. I would appreciate if the MHUSD would consider making marching band participation count for PE credit I and all the band members would greatly appreciate it.

Marching band is definitely harder then regular PE and the people who put in all the effort deserve credit for this.

I agree because I have and have had siblings do marching band and all the effort they put into it and everything they do to prepare for it should give them some credit because they run, they march, they work hard to get into the correct shape to march and they deserve to get P.E credit.

Marching band is extremely detail-oriented, repetitive, competitive, and physically gruelling. It definitely should give PE credit to the talented and hardworking individuals who give up hundreds of hours of their lives to perfect their show. Speaking as a band kid from a HS where they give .5 PE credits for marching season each year (takes 2 years to receive full credit) it is a lot more efficient for EVERYBODY!

I am not a part of our city's marching band but I know that students who are in marching band, give it 110% effort. They go through lots of financial expenses in order to be able to be active in the music community and it worsens when added with school fees. So, I believe that schools who offer Marching Band as an option, should owe it to the students who work hard while handling other massive responsibilities, to offer them a P.E credit. I give this school and this petition 100% of my support. This one is for The Music students of this school and of the states.
