Okay, so I actually see the school's point of not showing shoulders. Their thinking was that if tank tops weren't allowed on campus, then girls wouldn't wear "revealing" clothes because most tanks scoop down relatively low. So they cut out shirts that show shoulders all together to try to fix the problem. The bigger issue here is that there are so many shirts that can be seen as "conservative" and DON'T scoop down low, and the school is STILL dresscoding kids for them. A ton of sweaters have the shoulders cut off, but I'll bet 80% of them don't show off much more. There is a disconnect between the staff and students, and no one is really sure what's allowed and what's not. I've had some teachers dresscode guys for wearing tank tops, I've had some teachers let it fly. We just have to see both sides to the story and figure out a way so this joke about sexualizing shoulders isn't why kids think there's a dress code. Fix the dress code.

My friend went to the office for 6 hours because of the dress code. She missed 6 hours of Education. It's a shame she had to wake up at 5am just to sit in the office for 6 hours because of this rule.

I 100% with this petition. I believe that the schoolboard has sexist views towards our students. Why can boys wear tank tops and girls have to have their shoulders covered?
