as a student, I would like to be educated by fairly paid staff, in secure working environments, within an institution that cares more about education than profit. The neoliberalisation of the higher education sector is worrying, and I hope that you will use your influence to change this situation.

Being in my final semester of my final year of my degree I find the uni's action towards the striking unacceptable. Not only will it severely disrupt teaching but it will have a great impact on my final grades due to a lack of contact time at this crucial stage. I support the teachers reasons to strike and find the university's dismissive response not good enough. If nothing else we deserve compensation for the hefty fees we pay as we will not receive the service we are paying for.

I could write something candid, academic and sensible here. However, my overwhelming disgust at the situation is unfortunately leaving me somewhat speechless. So I will leave a simple and concise statement: honour the lecturers who have a direct impact upon our learning; indeed, honour the institution of learning in itself.

This is appalling. Very disappointed in the University of Manchester. The staff in the Criminology department are incredible lecturers and it is very disappointing that despite spending £9,000 a year on an education here, we do not receive what we are paying for. I believe that a refund would be appropriate.

Do right by us, for once! And by your employees! The University is getting away with shocking things economically while its staff and students are the ones who carry all the burden. Maybe dip into those vast reserves and stop passing the buck.

The staff at The University of Manchester are some of the best educators i have ever met. They encourage us to learn and actually care about our education. I will always 100% support them.

I disagree with the idea that students should get reimbursed just for this - education is a right and we shouldn't have to pay for it in the first place, but this is an excellent statement. Please join SOS MCR to get involved in solidarity work.

I completely agree with the reasons as to why the staff are striking, I simply believe we should be reimbursed for the money we are losing through missing lectures.
