We, the parents of Haycock Elementary School, request that
the FCPS Office of Facilities and the FCPS School Board:
PAUSE THE RENOVATION PROCESS for Haycock Elementary School and give significant consideration to the viable alternatives offered by the Haycock Renovation Committee. Use these as a basis to find a solution to increase the final building size of Haycock Elementary in order to succeed in providing a properly-sized building to house the future students of Haycock while preserving the existing field space.
ENSURE THERE WILL BE ENOUGH SEATS in the renovated building to accommodate ongoing growth in the base school population without compromising class size. The population of school-age children in Haycock's neighborhoods continues to increase, and our school enrollment growth continues to outpace county averages.
PRESERVE FIELD SPACE AT HAYCOCK by building a multi-story addition that will yield the same number of classrooms as a single-story expansion. The current renovation plan sprawls across Haycock's limited school grounds taking away valuable green space that could be used for recess, gym, and community recreational sports programs.
CORRECT THE PROJECTED ENROLLMENT NUMBERS for Haycock by ensuring that the projections are based on actual enrollment and neighborhood population movement. Collaborate with parents, educators, and community leaders.
As taxpayers, we recognize that our valuable tax dollars have already been spent on the design phase of this project; yet, we do not think this justifies continuing with the current renovation plan. In our opinion, continuing with the current proposed plan would waste additional taxpayer money on building a school that would not address the future needs of the community. We ask that the process be paused until a plan can be designed that will address the needs of Haycock.

I am looking at these numbers and honestly we are almost at one hundred which is just wild because I remember staring at a blank screen thinking maybe nobody would care. Can you just message a neighbor or maybe someone who has kids at Haycock and tell them to jump on this real quick because if we hit that mark the board might actually glance at us before they make any final moves.

my kids need that field for recess. please stop this sprawl and look at building up instead... it makes way more sense!
Fix the projections first. If the school is already crowded now the new plans will be outdated before they even finish construction.
Please listen to the parents who actually know what this school needs. We need more seats not less field space.
So tired of the green space disappearing. Haycock kids deserve room to run and play. Fix the plans.
Building outward is just lazy planning. Why eat up all the field space when we can go vertical? Stop the project and rethink this mess.
