As a 25-year resident of an apartment building on Columbia Rd. and a full-time pedestrian, this blatant giveaway to bicyclists and bicycle rental companies is a travesty of endangerment to public safety. No!

It's not broken, please don't "fix" it by making Columbia Road look like 17th St. The proposed timing of this ill-conceived project - to begin late July - ignores the heavy construction traffic for the Adams School renovation, that will continue for at least another year. Imagine this truck trying to enter the alley with parked cars pushed out to the middle of the road and narrower travel lanes.! Imagine two metrobuses, each 8.5' wide, trying to pass with narrower lanes. And the traffic mayhem that will occur if a trash truck, moving van, fire engine, or ambulance - or your Door Dash driver, or Lyft, or caregiver - has to stop in the roadway. Just makes no sense. TELL THE MAYOR NO!

This ill-considered project will make it more difficult, slow, and unsafe for those of us who use bus transit frequently. The proposed bike lanes will be used by scooters, mopeds, and other motorized devices that bus riders will have to dodge. Bus riders with disabilities will be put at even greater danger. Our local small businesses will likely be driven out of business due to lack of delivery space and customer access.

Happy Sunday, Please pause this project o Columbia Road. Where is the street traffic survey and/or report regarding why this area should be changed. Where resident included in this decision? Answer these questions?

This is a ridiculous project for a narrow, already overcrowded Columbia Rd. It even proposes to make a portion of Ontario Rd NW one way the OPPOSITE way it is used most! Residents, especially if parked facing West on East Lanier and needing to head East - I live on Lanier and this is my usual situation- will be effectively trapped. Or maybe they’re supposed to spend 20 minutes at rush hour first going the opposite direction around the neighborhood? Or they are relying on people doing U-turns on the narrow, already often-clogged Lanier? So that 1 percent of commuters who are bikers can flow through the neighborhood better? Some of us saved for 30 years to live here!

Lack of recognition for the needs of residents and businesses in this community. The changes would be harmful and benefit no one.

I live in the neighborhood and do not support the planned project.

Don't let Columbia Rd. become like 14th & U Streets, NW, north side -- ugly and hazardous to pedestrians and bus riders.

I completely disagree with this project and the points made in the petition. The project offers no solutions and will be a disaster.

I live at the Calverton and this project will restrict all trucks and cars on our street but it also restricts access to street for our residents. This is a busy street with a lot of residential and commercial buildings. Those buildings need truck/car access for commercial and residential deliveries, customers, drop-offs and pick-ups. These stops will continue to happen throughout the day and will block the road and traffic. This design is a disaster and will cause more problems and traffic on our streets. This design is all about restricting access and offers ZERO solutions for the many residents on this street.

There are no accommodations or considerations for the residents who live here. There is not a single item regarding a plan for how we will access the front of our residence. Not to mention the loss of not just some, but ALL parking. This plan focuses solely on people traveling through our neighborhood as if we don’t matter.

++DC Code: “Community views shall be adequately considered in positions taken by the [ANC] Commission.” ANC1C did not discuss project as an agenda item at a full meeting until March 2024 -- except when it passed a key resolution in October 2022 with no public notice. ++DDOT did not hold a public meeting. ++Residents + businesses (including a community health center) east of 17th Street are particularly hard hit. Zero street parking. ++Did DDOT explore a redesign other than a priority bus lane to improve traffic flow at this stretch. ++We don't know incident trends. No numbers for 2020 - 2023 or monthlies for 2024. ++No budget numbers. ++No bike traffic projections. ++No safety awareness/injury prevention campaign. ++Moving the bus stop across from the Safeway seems especially harsh given people rely on it for grocery shopping.

The physical set up isn’t friendly/safe for older citizens/ disabled citizens. Nor are the proposed bus stop changes

The proposal hurts residents, the elderly and disabled and businesses by eliminating parking. Removing bus stops hurts those who need public transportation.
