What we see when riding the bus along this strip of Columbia Road are older people, many using canes, people with disabilities, people doing their shopping and running errands often with carts and child carriers. At school leaving times, the buses are once again crowded with students, many carrying heavy book bags and backpacks. Their numbers will increase when the Oyster Adams school renovations are completed and the school is once again in use. Other heavy users are those coming off their shifts at local businesses and restaurants. None of these riders are likely to hop on scooters. Whoever designed the locations of the existing stops knew what they were doing. For all these groups, the existing stops are widely used and the most convenient on this section of Columbia Road.

I am a 43 year Adams Morgan resident living a stone's throw from Columbia Rd. The proposals with respect to the changes in bus stops/lanes and ever more accommodation for bikes and electric scooters appear to be designed to discourage as many of us elderly pedestrians as possible from setting foot outside our homes. This whole project is a bad idea and should be consigned to the nearest trash can.

The ideas proposed are absurd and will injure everyone from pedestrians to bikers to bus travelers and especially businesses on the Columbia Road blocks. 18th has already been ruined by concrete barriers and destruction of streets by shedville. Now here comes a bizarre concept for Columbia Road. Awful.

Parking is very hard in our neighborhood. This will worsen matters, and cause other problems already described. I hope the authorities reconsider this narrow-minded, inconsiderate plan.

This plan is a horrible fit for Columbia Rd and Adam’s Morgan. It will cause endless traffic tie ups with bus stoppages and delivery trucks In travel lanes, safety issues with pedestrians crossing hi speed scooter traffic to board the bus, and take away so much of the little remaining car parking. It also removes badly needed and much used bus stops. We don’t need express bus lanes in our neighborhood we need bus stops. This is not a planned community it is an old neighborhood where there’s not enough road width for this plan. Traffic speeds are very reasonable here now and I feel completely safe bicycling here the way it is. Also I’m not a fan of channeled or physically restricted bike lanes. I believe them to be more dangerous than having the ability to escape a collision or dangerous situation. The KCA adopted changes on the other hand make very good sense.

I vehemently vote against this project. Please reconsider and involve the local population in plans for Columbia Road. I don't drive in the city and consistently use a bike to get around. In recent years, DDOT has made great strides in improving and adding bike lanes, and I thank the city planners for making DC bike friendly. However, the plan for Columbia road is not safe for bikers, as well as pedestrians. Please do NOT go through with this plan. Thank you for your consideration.

Delays and congestion on Columbia Road are occasionally very bad now; taking travel and parking lanes away in favor of bicycle paths on Columbia Road would be unsafe and is a bad idea.

I support the expansion of bike lanes and public transit, but DDOT is recklessly planning to build bike lanes on streets like Connecticut Avenue and Columbia Rd. where the adverse impacts outweigh the positive ones. Whatever happened to the idea of transportation planning that takes into account the needs not just of bike riders but of local businesses, children and other pedestrians, and elderly and other people who depend on cars? DDOT needs to engage in transportation planning that takes everyone’s needs into account.

By eliminating parking you destroy the local businesses. Only the young and healthy can go the stores and restaurants. You create a ghetto for only the very local people.

While I think more should be done to reward those who do not own automobiles, I do not think we need to redesign Columbia Road. Please do NOT go ahead with this project. The current bike lanes and ease of walking are perfect now.
