I sent messages to the council and major on Friday. On Saturday one of them replied, asking for my phone number so we could discuss this issue. Two others replied with one of them saying he was as concerned as I am. Another replied that he was out of ideas as to funding beach renouishment. He suggested I run for council. This is the stance of an elected official. The other 3 administrators did not reply. I'll give the a be week before I reveal the results. Kudos for this petition!

Government must stop just taking whatever the elected craves. Citizens don't just make more money because government decides to take more money. Just because the government has the power to take it does not mean the citizens have the power to make it. This is irrational and completely destructive and should not be tolerated by the citizenry.

I moved into 520 West Beach in 1998 and never experienced the devastation that we saw in August. The sewer assessment was a true disaster but the entire island shared that cost. Didn't most of the people on this island move to OKI to have access to the beach? If the sand hadn't been moved off the streets no one would have had access to the beach. That access also helps every homeowner on OKI have a very valuable property - no matter where they live on the island. We are all the people of OKI who have property values based on that access. That dune was needed to protect the roadways, sewer system and underground electric. Please give property owners time to look at ways to make this access ent more equitable. And why do we feel we should underwrite parking for all of the day trippers to OKI? We are now one of the few beaches that does not charge day trippers any fee. Please let the owners of property work together to structure a feasible plan for all.

Many of the full time residents have saved for many years to purchase a home and retire to this beautiful island and who are now on a fixed income and can’t afford this kind of financial burden. This proposal, if enacted, will force residents to sell their home. This will not only have an impact on resident, but all businesses on the island. I read everyday about people buying property to build their forever home to enjoy our beach. I stopped counting all of the new homes being built here. Please understand I welcome everyone. However, First and second row should not have to take on the burden for everyone. Everyone enjoys our beaches. Why can’t the total cost of the program be split evenly among all residents? They all enjoy the beach. I agree with others that there has to be alternatives to meet these costs. Paid parking. Beach renourishment fees can be added to the rental costs. Meeting with our state elected officials and other agencies to see what other options we may have instead of putting the burden on the homeowner. St James has a private club here. They enjoy our beaches too. Their members should be subject to share in the cost as well.

It is my opinion if we are paying for the beach we should be able to make the beach private. If you’d like to keep the beach public, then the public should be paying for it. Many of us don’t rent our homes, are retired and this burden would drive us from the island. Look for other funding, please.

This approach is wrong. Everything I've seen the Town Council do has been a knee-jerk reaction without any due diligence or exploration of options. Stop spending money that isn't yours to spend.

We are retired full time residences and should not have to pay for everyone else who uses the beach. Funny how the people who are passing this have zoned the areas that they live to be taxed the least.

State and federal aid first (if TX can get bailed out for neglecting grid maintenance... twice), paid parking second, and then consider based on property values equally for the entire town.

504 w beach. We live here For half of the year we receive no rental income during this time . We hope in a year or two retire here permanently. This will be a burden for limited fixed income families . 2nd row should not be zoned with 1st row .

With all due respect to the work that has already been done by our Town Council and Mayor, please pause this MSD assessment process and take time to fully disclose to ALL property owners the reasons for selecting this plan and the not selecting others.

Increase and enforce occupancy tax on rentals (any rental under 30 days). Stiff fines for violations.
