Pause Beach Renourishment Project

I agree ! Do the Oak island residents RIGHT !

Please investigate further before proceeding

Knowledge is power. It cant hurt to stop and find out everything

This project has been rushed without hearing from the residents of Oak Island. I own a beach front property, and your project will have me paying $100,000!!! Other owners would pay substantially less. We and our renters are not the only people who use the beach it is for everyone! We bring MANY tourists to the town all year, and that means money being spent there! The town should have been more prepared for this. We are an island, and projects like this are inevitable. Why in the world is there not money set aside for things such as this?!?!

Those of us on fixed incomes can not continue to fund the beach renourishment. You are going to begin driving the average person out of Oak Island.

Everyone that accesses the beach should be included in any assessment. Charge for parking if necessary. Everyone enjoys and uses the beach. Everyone should pay

There are other income sources and savings not evaluated..

Your current trajectory is sure to lower home prices and deter visitors.

I'd like to know what the end result will be with the plan if it moves forward. Will private walkovers be allowed? Will all areas be renourished and engineered?

Stop construction of new homes on beach front to allow for more appropriate dunes to be built.

Please exhaust all other means of funding before putting an overbearing cost on the year round resident owners of Oak Island.

Please do not pass this ridiculous act.

This is an undue burden upon residents and permanent citizens who do not deserve it. Institute high paid parking fees for non residents and explore ALL options before once again assessing local scor something they cannot address and did not cause and do not deserve. Otherwise there will only be multi millionaires here. Sad when our own sheriff here couldn't afford a home.

Beach house on 1008 west dolphin drive...this is ridiculous.

We own on east beach 2nd row. We would love to try to find a solution that fits all OKI owners.

The beach is not our private front yard and is open to everyone. Imagine having to personally be assessed for street repair in front of your house even though everyone uses it. Please be open to input and explore more equitable funding solutions. Thank you!

Since all property owners have access to beach spread cost evenly and charge parking for day visitors.

Ridiculous, so what do you intend to do? Every time there’s a hurricane raise the taxes? It’s not enough that your revenue is constantly increasing due to property value increases not to mention the yearly property tax increases? Why don’t you consider Adding this “sand tax” to the beach front property owners? Those are the ones that benefit the most & also the rental property owners? Not to us the year round permanent residents! You’re going to drive us out off town! You want to bite the hand that feeds you!

Under “Equal Protection” laws, are we all being equally protected by this assessment imposition? We have spoken to an attorney who says that we can sue after the law is passed and damages occur from this legislative action. Have other avenues been considered? Such as paid parking, higher paid parking passes for residents, accommodations tax on the 50,000 or so visitors in lieu of our 8,000 residents? Do we need a beach to attract the tourists for the economy of the whole town? Most tourist cannot say how much tax they pay, so an increase here would defray the costs without unfairly burdening a small group. We only have 900 homes ocean-front. Ours is 900 square feet and we cannot afford such a bill. So we will do what we have to—to protect ourselves. Do the beaches of NC not belong to everyone in NC?

Everyone on the Island benefits from the Beach not right to target a few.
