Pause Beach Renourishment Project

First and second row homeowners do not own the beach. I don't see how this assessment is fair by having first and second row home owner's pay for the benefit of everyone else. If everyone has the same benefit of using the beach, everyone should pay for the 4 year assessment by implementing a tax for all.

Due diligence is always a good idea.

This appears to be a crime against Mother Nature. I am against being unfairly charged for a beach that is unowned by homeowners. Please stop the action to excessively and unfairly charge homeowners who do not own property on the beach and reconsider your conscious.

Have owned our home on Oak Island for almost 40 years. If this assessment goes through in its present state, we won’t be able to afford Oak Island anymore. Had hoped to pass this home to the third and maybe fourth generation, but I feel in my heart that the family beach home is not what the Town Council wants anymore. What they are looking for is income producing properties.

I am a full time resident. I am retired and do not get any extra income from rentals.

I think there are other avenues to explore to raise funds vs the homeowners bearing a $40 million assessment.

Let's make this fair to all and all of us will continue to enjoy Oak Island

While I agree the beachfront homes should be taxed at a higher rate, I cannot see the benefit of a 4 year assessment. The storms will continue and the beach front homes will be damaged. You cannot stop the ocean or the sand moving. We are wasting money. If the people on the beachfront want to maintain an ocean front home, they should pay.

Please stop with the plan of charging front row homeowners excessively and not getting money from Brunswick County and State of NC. Do what is right. Build a jetty!!!

The beach is not owned by ocean front or second row property owners and they already pay significantly higher taxes that purport to contribute to beach nourishment - where are those funds? The current assessment is an embarrassment and inexcusable.

This is ridiculous!! STOP THE INSANITY!! You can cannot stop Mother Nature. Why do you want to spend more money on something that can and will change again in six months.

I will only be indirectly affected by this but do feel that the process is being rushed. The risk of unintended consequences for actions like these is high. I'd add to the list that the additional steps beyond what have been taken be enumerated for the public to see to avoid a meaningless pause with the same results trotted out 60 days later.

If we don’t stop this People will be moving off Island. No one can afford to live here

Remember...If it 'ain't' broke, don't fix it. If you must however, then seek help from funding sources.

Oak Island property owner

I own two lots; one oceanfront and one on the 2nd row. Though owning beachfront property comes with certain risk (which I am willing to take), this plan feels very rushed and not thought out. If I am required to foot the bill to give others a beautiful beach, I at least deserve answers as to when my private walkover can be rebuilt. The plan as stated will have many long term negative effects for the town of OKI. There has got to be a plan that is more equitable for ALL who use the beach.
