Tired of paying continual taxes and fees on sand fir the tourists. Let the rental owners pay for the sand if they want it

If I where to pay a private contractor to rebuild my dunes it would be half of what is being proposed. I’m fine to pay my share but not all the public access and areas like the point that I don’t own.

Due diligence please

Much more research and analysis is needed.

I don't pretend to know everything about this issue, but based on the speed it is moving through local government and widespread opposition from the residents, it only makes sense to take the time to evaluate all options. We do not need another financial fiasco like the sewer system.

Pause the project please

This is another money pit that will never go away once put into place just like the sewer!

A pause seems like the best thing we could ever do.

This issue demands all the time needed to reach a sustainable solution.

This proposed assessment is definitely inequitable. The process needs to slow down and the public needs to be involved in a transparent and thoughtful process.

Looking at other beach communities, we are far from exhausting other means to fund sand renourishment

First, where can we find documentation of what other options the Town Council has researched and reasons for not pursuing those or others. If first or second row don't want to pay more, when their home washes into the ocean, what will they do? That's another reason they should pay more. Everyone on the island should pay BUT we agree that those closest to the beach should pay more. I can't see the ocean from my home, I have to walk or ride a bike to the beach. If I were to rent my home (which I don't), I couldn't charge the higher rate for rent. When I go to sell our home, it isn't worth the bigger dollar figure either. I'm saying the Town is not charging first row & second row an excessive amount. I do believe that paid parking should be put in place but I've also watched Council meetings where this was discussed and home owners complain about that too! Geez! How can the town ever implement anything. Think about it, just how many years have they tried to come up with a paid parking plan. Too many for sure. Make paid parking happen and reduce what everyone will have to pay for sand. They talk about petty things like charging for the tennis courts/pickle ball/water park, etc. Give me a break. Parking would be a much better income stream. Also, enforce and ticket those that are breaking laws.

Please do the job you were elected to do and take care of the citizens of Oak Island. Make better decisions about how to spend the towns money.Tax tax tax is not always the answer.

No one can afford this tax burden on first and second rows.

The first and second row rentals absolutely do benefit the most from beach re nourishment . Without a beach, who will pay $3000.00 a week for their property? I do not want to subsidize a property owner whose property I can not afford to stay in. There will always be a beach here, it may not look like it does today, but it will always be here. The outer banks are in worse shape than us and they are waking up to the fact that they can not spend money proving up vacation rental property when all science suggests that we will lose 7 to 14 foot of beach every year. Don’t throw our money away and force long time residents to leave. We moved or retired here because we loved the small town feel. The beach is a plus, but not everything.

We will keep having Hurricanes. Are you going to raise our taxes for every hurricane or let FEMA, do their job?

Here we go again. Keep it up and this town will not have ANY residents left.
