Pause Beach Renourishment Project

We need more time to come to a well investigated, sound, mostly agreeable solution.

Pause for the cause!

Recommend that nonresidents, or short term rentals be charged for parking near the beach , And beach accesses. Homeowners and long term rentals (more than six months), would have the ability to purchase a parking sticker, that would exempt them from paid parking. This would obviously need to be stringently enforced.

Please represent the residents of oak island, not the business interests of people. Also, please put this to a vote. Let the residents decide.

Thank you your consideration. Why not an occupancy tax since folks are making money from there houses. I just live here in my house on a fixed income

This is a short term solution for a long term issue. Stop the sand tax.

Please consider and search for additional funding outside of the property owners in order to lower the percentages needed. The current percentages are too much of a burden to residents and property owners.

Another sand tax?? Absurd! We cannot stop Mother Nature from severe storms & hurricanes eroding away the sand. Does this mean each time this happens, we tax payers must pay the price? NO! Look elsewhere for the monies, not into the taxpayers’ pockets.

The town's greatest asset is the Ocean, which benefits the community equally. I suspect most people and businesses would not reside on Oak Island if not for the Ocean frontage. Punishing those who own Ocean front so disproportionately is simply wrong and reflects a twisted view of both economics and social justice. A quick fix like this is what kills towns like this.

Stop the sand tax. We are already overtaxed and please realize that a majority of the island population is seniors. The high insurance payments along with the expensive water bills is enough for us to handle. What about the people from the surrounding areas. They use the beach but do not contribute to the beach nourishment cost. I vote no

It would work as long as there are no more storms. History has shone there will be more with disappearing sand and changing shorelines.

It has been demonstrated several times since we bought our ocean front cottage 12 years ago that the ocean will do exactly what it wants to do. No amount of sand pumping, beach nourishment, or whatever you want to call it makes any difference. This is a waste of money in the highest sense.

Paid parking will not make a dent in the 40 million needed. If parking generated 100,000 a year. It would take 10 years to generate 1 million. Don’t look to parking to pay for anything except the company the town hires to manage the mess. No one can afford this project.

Such a waste of our hard earned monies. Retirees can’t afford this!

Town Council to Hold Special Called Meeting on Beach Nourishment Master Plan April 6, 2021 Town Hall style meeting will be held in the Council Chambers at 6:00 PM.

Sewer, water, sand and what else?

Replenishment of sand that will wash away with the next hurricane is an endless - and extremely expensive job. Any beach improvements should be made with state and federal funds only. Homeowners don't own the ocean!

This is the very definition of pissing away money. You put $40M into replenishing a beach and the first big storm washes it into the ocean. Why cannot people accept that sand comes and goes with the tides and the weather. Let the beach be what it is and accept it for that. So, there would be less tourists. So what? The lockdowns have taken away tourists too. If first row needs the beach for protection, then that is largely on them. Accept the cost and move on.

Seek further wisdom before taxing your citizens. You’re better than this.
