I have signed this petiton as a former soldier who wishes to honour another. I am a Wexford -countyman of Commodore John Barry, first Commissioned Officer of the United States Navy. When offered a bribe of one-hundred thousand pounds to command a British frigate, Barry responded to this offer by saying "neither the entire British treasury nor command of the whole navy could make him desert the American navy." It is entirely fitting the the USN should honour another Irish American fighting man of the sea by naming a ship for him. I trust that the Navy will do so. God bless America.

As a wounded Vietnam Veteran, I hope you would consider naming a ship after CPL Patrick Gallagher. By doing so, you honor all of us.

~Because he is deserving.
~Because he and his fellow countrymen's contributions to the war effort in Viet Nam has too long been unrecognized.
