We, the undersigned parents and community members of Elizabeth Irwin High School, are appealing for the immediate reinstatement of Pat Carter as Learning Specialist and head of the Academic Support Center. We believe Pat Carter should be reinstated because her work with our children exemplifies the progressive ideals of innovative teaching, active learning, academic excellence and creativity which are the foundation of LREI’s mission.
Pat Carter is an extraordinary mentor and teacher whose remarkable ability to recognize and implement the appropriate level of support for each of her students has made a significant difference in their lives. Under her guidance, students have not only achieved academic success at the high school, but have also become curious, independent thinkers and life-long learners. Working in concert with the rest of the LREI faculty, Pat has supported the goals of the High School Curriculum in a way that builds trust with her students and challenges them to reach their full potential as both learners and human beings.
As dedicated supporters of Elisabeth Irwin High School, we are proud that our kids are part of a wonderfully diverse community with its rich history in progressive education. Pat Carter has played an unmistakable role in our student’s success. Her teaching exemplifies the very qualities that Elisabeth Irwin herself lived by and sought to inspire in all teachers.
