It’s unfair that the decision for Pass/Fail was done rather quickly than waiting a few more weeks to see what other school districts were doing. at the very least, students should have had a choice to get a grade for 3rd quarter.

I appreciate how hard the district has worked through this crisis to support the community and all the students. Now that we are through the initial part of the crisis and can benchmark against other schools, I think the district should reconsider how to include GPA and QPA points for this semester. In a recent web meeting by the College Board, they stated that 86% of AP teachers are still giving A-F grades this semester, and they encouraged participants to speak to their districts if the districts were foregoing the bonus points this semester. I think we should reward our students for their hard work, especially in the midst of this crisis, and keep the MtL students on a more commensurate scale with the national community.

I wholly support this petition! What some folks who do not have older students do not realize - is that the GPA equates into REAL $$$! (Not just admissions). My older son missed a 10k "automatic scholarship" reduction in his college tuition as he just missed that benchmark. THIS will happen to our current students IF this policy is NOT changed to give credit to our current Fresh. Soph. Jr. students who are working hard during this difficult time.

How about giving students the choice between P/F and a letter grade at the end of the semester. Many universities are doing this. The P/F removes the pressure, but the option to get a letter grade also gives students motivation to do their best.

I would rather the students get the grades they earn, but would rather have this than no letter grade at all.

Mt Lebanon School District appears to have selected the simple pass/fail approach out of an understandable sense of fairness in an extraordinary and challenging time. However, this approach places all Lebo HS students at a disadvantage relative to students of peer districts in college admissions. I respectfully ask the Administration and School Board to reconsider.

I want Mt Lebanon to do what other local schools are doing. Our students, my child will have to compete against these other students from local schools .. not fair.

Kids should have the opportunity to compete for grades and competitive college entries. Please go to pass=A and assign a full year grade and bonus.

Pass/Fail option is better suited for some schools at/near the bottom of the State performance rankings, not for the caliber of school district that Mt. Lebanon is supposed to be. MtL has a long history of high standards and excellence, doing this unwarranted, it settles for mediocrity, sets a poor example and will hurt the students. The school board and superintendent can remedy this by quickly re-instating the standard grading system, that the students and tax-paying residents are accustomed to and want.

To Whom It May Concern - As a working mother of two children whose acceptance and scholarship opportunities depended upon their GPA/QPA and as a graduate school/job applicant myself, I understand the importance of the high school transcript as a measure of a candidate's worth as the high school transcript follows a person for their entire life. I respectfully request that the Mt. Lebanon School District Board of Directors and Administration revise the current approach to Pass/Fail grades, to bring them into alignment with the Pass/Fail solutions adopted by nine other local districts in order to benefit Mt. Lebanon students of all ages and abilities. Since Mt. Lebanon is a public school district, I also request that the Mt. Lebanon School District Board of Directors and Administration act as required by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as they conduct all policy and administrative assessments, and as they review bids and contracts.
Sincerely - Kathy Hrabovsky

This is an absolute joke. Typical, everyone get a trophy. My daughter worked hard in the 1st semester Junior year to achieve a 4.0. Why is Mt. Lebanon putting our hard working kids at a disadvantage to their peers in the area as well as the state.

Why would MTLSD seek to further penalize their students? Hasn’t their school situation (going remote) been enough of a disruption?

Based on the bench marking among peer schools, Mt. Lebanon students should have an option to get letter grades to raise up their GPA. A lot of students will be demotivated to study with pass/fail grades.

Our Mt Lebanon High School students deserve to be in the best possible position when competing for college admissions. It is the school districts responsibility to ensure this to each and every student.

Truth be told, I don’t think everyone should be given A’s. I believe that grading should be on a generous curve during this confusing time. I signed this petition though because it is not fair to our students that the surrounding schools that they are in “competition” with are getting this advantage and they are not.
