On September 21, 1991 Rena Payne was working at the Shamrock Convenience Store in San Angelo, Texas. Javier S. Valenzuela was high on drugs. He came in the store to rob it and shot her in the head two times. Rena was only 23 years old and had 2 sons. He also shot and killed Barney Hudson who was a customer. Mr. Hudson had 6 children. Javier Valenzuela was sentenced to Life.
We, STRONGLY OPPOSE, parole for Javier S. Valenzuela. Justice demands that he be kept in prison to complete his sentence.

He should stay in prison for as long as he's sentenced. Her sons will never know their mother.
I was only five years old when my life changed forever. I remember the moment my parents received the phone call. Everything suddenly became frantic. They rushed to call neighbors to come stay with me and my little sister so they could get to the hospital. As a child, I didn’t fully understand what was happening, but I knew something was terribly wrong. The next day they came back to get us and take us to the hospital. Our entire family gathered because she was being kept alive only by machines. We were there to say goodbye. Even though I was so young, the memory is permanently engrained in my mind. I remember walking into the ICU and seeing her lying there with her head wrapped in gauze. I remember the silence from some family members who were trying to stay strong, and the overwhelming cries from others who were completely broken by what had happened. That image has never left me. It is something a five-year-old child should never have to see, yet it is a memory I have carried with me my entire life. Her life was taken in a violent and senseless act. But the damage did not end with her death. An entire family was shattered. Most importantly, two young boys — Christopher and JW — lost their mother. They were robbed of a lifetime of memories, guidance, love, and support that every child deserves to have. The man who chose to take her life didn’t just take one person. He created a lifetime of pain, trauma, and loss for everyone who loved her. Decades may pass, but the impact of that day does not fade. The grief, the memories, and the absence of her in our lives remain. Granting parole would not erase the trauma our family has endured. Instead, it would force us to relive one of the most painful chapters of our lives and reopen wounds that have never fully healed. The consequences of his actions were permanent. Our loss is permanent. The trauma is permanent. For these reasons, I firmly believe the man responsible should remain in prison.

This man took two lives away from their families. He belongs behind bars for the rest of his life. Keep him locked up.
