It's a little wishful to think that all parents can live within walking distance of their children's primary school. The parking situation around the school at drop off and pick up times is poor. Cars regularly park on verges and pavements (the verges along Barn Road and Queens Road are no longer green...). This is not the ideal environment for small children who can't be seen behind cars. Widening Church Lane to allow for drop off/pick up and creating parking bays in the wider green verges would help. Perhaps the police could provide sufficient parking for its staff within HQ grounds too.

We always walk to school but my road is full of parents and polics hq staff parking with no consideration, something needs to be done before someone has a serious accident

I don't own a car, we always walk, I don't mind police headquaters staff or parents driving or parking in our close I do mind the excessive speeds used by workers and residents along the routes to school.

To destroy the green to make parking for parents is a ridiculous idea. This would only increase the amount of traffic around the school, creating even more chaos in the local roads, as well as destroying another green area. It is plain laziness on the part of most parents, who cannot be bothered to walk the short distance to school. We should be encouraging parents to get their children to walk to school. It would be good for their health and for the environment, and hopefully create a more considerate next generation of parents. Perhaps parents who moved to Ringmer should have thought of the impact this would have on their children getting to and from schools.
I live in Malling and we walk to the school. Parents show no consideration for others when they park on pavements and grass verges. It is them that we should be petitioning to behaviour in a more reasonable way. A few traffic warden or police there in the mornings/afternoons is what is needed.

tis is a serioius issue around the school i saw a child run out from beind a car in the rain the driver didnt see the child but te child was luckly not to be hit te cars do not go slowly up and down tis road either maybe have a total no parking zone between 8am and 9.15 to allow children to get in safely and the same for home time say 2.45 till 3.45 could this help stop our children from being run over ?

As a disabled person picking up their grandchild from school I am unable to park anyway near the school due to the high number if vehicles in the area at home time.

maybe if there was enough parking for visitors and staff at the Police Headquarters there would be more spaces across the Malling Estate for residents and would help with the issues around the school

I live in Herewood Way, and parking is an abolute nightmare due to Police and Post Office staff. Cars are a hazard for anyone using the school/locals; some parked on the banks (and churning them up) and obstructing crossing-areas and alike. Very angry!

The petition is simply to raise awareness and try to help ease all of this congestion. We do need to do something about this situation as it is has been going on for a very long time. I do not think we have lazy parents - just parents who live further away and those that start work as soon as they have dropped their children off.
I feel for the residents, parents and teachers who, with working together will hope to come up with an agreeable solution to everyone but for now, we just need the correct people to take notice that there is in fact a problem.

Hello, thank you for your comments - I do know that some local people are dropping off when they could be walking BUT they are normally going straight on to work and they can't be late for work so wouldn't have the time to walk back home to collect the car.
Also people are parking as soon as they find a space because in the past when they have driven round to find a space they have found none!

I do think some people are not taking the trouble to look for a space and walk from their car, also likely some could walk from home. But I agree with all efforts to create safer parking for those who have to drive.

Something definitely needs to be done, parking in this area is awful, as has been stated, those working at Police Headquarters take up the majority of parking spaces all day.

This issue is long overdue and the welfare of schoolchildren needs to be addressed urgently by ESCC. This situation can no longer continue.
