We are a group of students, parents, community members and concerned citizens who want our children to have their free choice recess at Breton Downs in East Grand Rapids, Mi. reinstated. We believe children at recess time should be allowed to play the traditional sports they love. We want our children to play soccer, two handed touch football, basketball and kickball or any game with traditional international rules. It is our belief that recess is a time for children be allowed to play..and make up their own rules. We are happy if the 'trouble free playground' games are made available to our children but would like all children to choose to play as they wish. Parents and students were not informed of any problems on our play ground until the first day of school when free choice recess was taken away. As a community we feel that it is unfair to impose these new rules without student or parental awareness. This program is currently being administered only at Breton. This rule is unfair on the Breton student being one of 3 feeder schools to the EGR middle school. Please sign the following so that all our children will be allowed free choice play at recess.
