Westport needs a co-ed school and having 4 buses going to Louisburgh every day with Westport based students is crazy.

It's the highlight of the TY year and shouldn't be cancelled.

The TY musical has been a highlight of TY for many students. We hope a resolution can be found, so this can continue for many more students.

I would like to find out who created this blurb as it is factually incorrect. This was never a topic for our Board of Management. As Principal for the last 15 years I wish to state that Rice College has always been an inclusive school and is preparing to go co-ed next September. We are totally open to Cooperation and Collaboration with any school and the community.

Incoming students were under the impression the musical would be part of their educational experience too. How has this community-wide rite of passage been axed with no consultation?

The collaboration between the schools was one of the great successes of the TY programme- the students are missing out on valuable social development opportunities.

As a mother of a SHS student I sincerely hope this decision is reversed, the TY musical has always been a huge part of the TY experience for both schools

As a past student of Sacred Heart, one of the standout experiences for me was participating in Transition Year (TY). This unique year of school allowed us to mix with the boys from the accompanying school, which not only expanded our academic opportunities but also broadened our social circles. Being able to interact with students of the opposite gender brought a fresh perspective to our learning environment. It encouraged collaboration and cooperation between boys and girls, leading to a more diverse and enriching educational experience for all of us. Mixing with the boys during TY helped us to form new friendships and connections that we may not have had the chance to develop otherwise. It allowed us to step outside of our comfort zones and break down any preconceived barriers or stereotypes that may have existed between the two schools. Overall, participating in TY and mixing with the boys at Rice College was a valuable and memorable experience that I will always look back on fondly. It not only enhanced my academic journey but also enriched my social and personal development during my time at the school.

I think it's ridiculous in this day and age that this, decision was taken that transition year students can no longer mix .

Disappointing for all students that their experience will differ from previous years.

We shouldn’t have to be signing a petition for this, can the 2 schools just not work together for everyone’s sake & especially for the students.

No communication on this. Should be both schools together. Parents should have a voice

Absolutely right it should be both schools together. Please make this happen!
