This last week has proved how important it is to have 20 mile zones near all schools.

I walk to school and it’s dangerous! So many times I have to pull my children towards me for safety. Everyone is in such a rush and it’s risky our lives.

Additional measures should be taken down Cold Bath Road, which is already (mostly) a 20mph zone. For example vehicles should not be allowed to ‘wait’/‘pick up or drop off’ on double yellow lines. They’re always there for longer than strictly allowed and block visibility for children walking to Western primary school & drivers from CBR onto Valley Drive.

Why is there not a 20 limit on every school in harrogate?

I see many cars travel 60+ mph down Yew Tree lane to Spring Lane. This whole stretch of road needs speed calming measures. The limit is 30mph the whole of Yew Tree Lane down into Burnbridge. More signs and other measures are needed.

My son was severely injured in the incident at Ashville college on 02/02/23. Roads around schools where pupils walk NEED to be made safer. This wasn’t the only incident in where one of my children was hit by a car.

What else needs to happen before this is taken seriously. Traffic around green lane, the greenway ‘cut through’ yew tree lane. Leadhall lane, church lane and Rossett green lane is a death waiting to happen. And not just at school times.

We want all Children to feel safe on their journeys to and from school, especially when they walk to and from that school. It is unacceptable, that there are no restrictions in place to ensure their safety. Two innocent young boys, have been terribly hurt due to no fault of their own, and will bare the mental and physical scars forever, weeks months, possibly years of pain and distress, affecting everyone around them, and their education and future choices. This cannot be brushed under the carpet, even the police statement was misspelled, and extremely played down. We have to take action for these children, and for the sake of all children protecting our environment by walking to school, this terrible incident has to be addressed NOW.

It’s scary as an adult having to navigate the busy roads. I really worry for my daughter.
