We residents of 87th Avenue, Palmetto Bay, and neighboring regions oppose the potential bridging project in Palmetto Bay over SW 87th Ave, between SW 164th St and SW 163rd Terrace. We ask our Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins and the entire Transportation Planning Organization to reject this bridge because the result will be increased traffic in Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay. The gridlock is thick before the location of the bridge and if a bridge were built, gridlock will be forced on to the less than 1-mile northern side of the canal because it is one lane and there is nowhere for cars to go, except to a few non-county side streets, flooding the rest of the residential neighborhood with more traffic than ever experienced. One signer, an attorney, eloquently writes that "We recognize that a debate requires a situation where both sides have something to gain, AND BOTH SIDES HAVE SOMETHING TO LOSE. Here, only one side stands to lose---what is debatable here is whether the other side is being realistic when they say they will draw a benefit at all. Again, there is nothing to debate for us: for us it is purely a losing proposition that our leaders should not be thrusting upon us at all. Rather, they should be acting for us against it--immediately." Residents matter and should always take precedence over cars. Residents choose to live here because it is safe for children, pets, and all pedestrians, not because it is easy to drive through. Residents appreciate the dead-end at the canal because it helps insulate and protect these streets that we live on. A bridge would unleash a torrent of cars that would gridlock 87th during peak hours, and fill it with exponentially more traffic, as well as attracting drivers to all surrounding non-county roads. We should not encourage making Palmetto Bay a cut-through for drivers. Miami-Dade County has conducted studies that predict that this bridge will improve traffic south only slightly, but this is only temporary as populations incr

A bridge on 87Avenue would not solve the traffic problem caused by thoughtless over development in south Miami-Dade County. The residents of Palmetto Bay are not responsible for making those terrible decisions that have caused a traffic nightmare and we must not be forced to pay the great price that this bridge would have on the quality of lives and the value of our homes. Building a bridge on 87th Avenue would be just another horrible decision; please do not build this bridge!

I live off 152 st and 83 ave on 156 st, have lived there for 50 years and agree 100% that a bridge at 87Ave south of 163 terr would be a severe blow to this one mile section of 87 ave. from 141 st. to 163 st. and the residents who live there, Not only 82 ave. which is already grid locked in the morning and afternoon, gridlock will also occur on 87 ave if the bridge is built and also all streets between 87 ave and 82 ave will have traffic running between then to try to beat the other cars going south. Danielle Cohen Higgins the new appointed commissioner wants the bridge which was rejected a few years ago with the help of the current Dade county mayor. A simpler solution for Ms. Higgins and all the people that would be affected adversely by the bridge is for Ms. Higgins to move north of sw 163 terr. Since when does easing traffic take presidence over neighborhood intergrity.

Opening up our neighborhood by destroying the natural confusing maze of ingress/egress it currently enjoys, will only provide a fast getaway to anyone looking for easy targets and access to quick thoroughfares. It will invite crime where there previously is naturally none.

This would just make traffic in Palmetto Bay even worse. People using this route would still be stuck in the same gridlocked traffic, just on different roads. Given the layout of our residential streets, it is physically impossible to funnel an overly large number of vehicles through this area in a swift and efficient manner.

Please, please, I beg you, do not build the bridge. It will create dangerous traffic through Palmetto Bay. It will not help traffic at all.
