I feel it is important that our bats get more of a PR boost. They are vital for keeping insect populations in check. They eat a variety of insects including agricultural pests and mosquitoes. I would proudly boast about our (future) state bat and the environmentally savvy lawmakers who sponsor this.

Bats are a great resource for the State of CA. It's amazing how this creature helps control insects and is an excellent alternative to using pesticides in our environment. As citizens we need to support and sustain wild animals in the Golden State of California. Let's remember that the true treasure in the state are the biodiversity of plants, animals, and landscape.

It's time for California to have a state bat, and what better mascot for this state than the unique pallid bat? Pallid bats provide top-notch ecosystem services (including pest control for our farmers) and have a distinctive look for easy ID by the public, not to mention they have the coolness factor of being able to eat scorpions!

Bats provide important ecological services to people, consuming enormous amounts of insects and other species that are considered pests to humans. The Pallid is one of California's most attractive and intriguing bats, and certainly merits greater attention by California citizens.

What a great idea. We need to demonstrate to everyone that bats are not nuisances but important pollinators and agricultural allies. Designating a state bat sends a great message of their importance. Well done!
