The Bill is a positive step in the conservation of bats and their habitats, and in the public education of their benefits and key role in our environment.

As you may all know, California is huge into agriculture. In fact, over a third of the country’s vegetables and two-thirds of the country’s fruits and nuts are grown in California! With that in mind, bats play a giant role in agriculture-- they eat pests! It's estimated that the value of bats to agriculture can be as low as $3.7 billion/year and as high as $53 billion/year! So, we should definitely pay homage to our winged friends of the night. Plus, pallid bats are one of my favorites! ❤

Enjoyed reading about Dave Johnston and his passion for bats. Much needed bat conservation efforts are needed to keep healthy populations going.

Bats are so good for us, we need to value them as such!

This is an important step in the conservation of bats in the US and hugely important in the recognition of bats as ecologically and economically significant organisms by the general public.

Bats are so important to California's ecology. The pallid bat is no exception. We need a state bat!

Bats are under-appreciated animals, and my friends and colleagues Drs Dave Johnston and Brock Fenton have identified this magnificent creature as a worthy symbol of the Golden State. Steve Carr BSc (Biological Sciences) Cal Poly '75 PhD (Genetics) UC Berkeley '83
