All states should have a state bat due to the ecosystem services they provide to the citizens, businesses, and industries in every state.

I fully support adoption of the Pallid Bat as the state chiropteran. Bats are seriously underappreciated, because of their odd appearance and bad rep, although they are a significant component of the California ecosystem, and elsewhere. (Several years ago, a stray eastern Pallid Bat blew onto the island of Newfoundland, and I was privileged to be part of the identification team.

Found out about biologist Dave Johnston and this petition at the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo web site. Great idea for a much misunderstood flying mammal! Great hands-on school for biology also. Attended there before med school. The pallid bat is one of California's best agricultural assets!

Incredible creatures who bring balance to the ecosystem and can reduce bug predators to farming and all beings, without poisons we currently rely on.
