Pacifica State Beach in Pacifica, California, also known as Linda Mar Beach, should be managed for the protection of the western Snowy Plover. The western Snowy Plover is a small, rare shorebird listed as threatened. Western Snowy Plovers historically have used this beach for millennia to roost, forage and breed. Today, they do not breed here due to no access to habitat. Increased human and pet activity has effectively taken this habitat away from the western Snowy Plover-- leaving no place for these birds to securely forage, nest, tend to their young and thrive.

I support adoption of the Pacifica Open Space Committee Recommendations for the Protection of Shore Birds at Pacifica State Beach.

Updates

December 2, 2013

The city keeps ignoring the fact that our local wildlife is being pushed out by pure negligence. I am done waiting for officials to acknowledge the obvious destruction of Snowy Plover habitat at Linda Mar. We are going to force this issue into the light until they actually follow their own protection recommendations.

Used to see these little guys all the time. Such a shame how crowded it gets now. Let them have a corner of the beach back.

Keep dogs on leashes and clear the area for the birds. Its not that hard to share the beach if people just follow the rules.
