This happened to me, the only excuse they had was that they were "understaffed"!!

There needs to be accountability! To have water /sewer bills double and triple in a given quarter is nonsense! I can share unfortunate situations happening to my clients. How can a town estimate bills for "sometime" and never disclose?!? The if bills double or triple...it's a water leak....even after 5 professionals verify no leaks!! Never have heard such nonsense!

The mayor needs to be FIRED. He has no interest in the residents of Taneytown.

I don't live in Taneytown, I do work in town and no many people that live there and I am always astounded by the water bills, this is something that needs fixed.

I had the Town check for leaks also and they found none. They checked back and said use was similar to last years.

This is not the fault of neglect on the citizens part, the city failed to give proper notification in a reasonable and timely effort and failed to mark the bills in a manner that was clear to residents, the citizens are not responsible for the towns negligence, the bills are to high to begin with, especially for the poor water quality and how hard the water is.

I have seen our water bill go from 99. Per quarter to 399. Per quarter. Most certainly there is a huge problem. We have curbed our useage by timing showers to using paper plates, NO CHANGE in our bill. This is horrible.

We moved here about a year and a half ago and only found out about the insanely high water cost, after purchasing our home and moving in. We are now actively looking at homes to purchase that are out of the area, so that our water bills wont be as high. Its absolutely ridiculous and needs to be fixed immediately!

I think it is outrageous that every 3 months I get a water bill for just shy of $500! Living in other towns/county's was never even close to $200! That is crazy!

Although I have not been personally affected (yet), I feel this policy, to type a one line *warning* in black tiny font (that gets sent back to the town office with your payment each month) is unfair. If there is a problem with the meter or battery the town should be contacting that household, perhaps with a large green sticky note (that they use two years after the battery dies) to inform you that they will be coming to change the battery not a suggestion to have the household call them.

We were told we must have a leak also and because we were honest and told them sometimes the toilet runs it was our fault. They were estimating our bill for years, when our water bill doubled we asked questions and fought but once we mentioned that our toilet handle sometimes sticks and runs it was our fault even though they did have to fix our meter (something was wrong with it but I don't remember what it was) it was still our fault. So unfair that they can take advantage of us the people they are supposed to serve.

so many are being told they must have a leak if their bill is high and yet no leaks are found - and still nothing is done. It is inexcusable to estimate a bill for years and then try to collect for underestimating. How can the City of Taneytown keep estimating a bill year after year and not notify the customer that something may be wrong with the meter?
