A new system needs to be implemented now. Families of the inmates are punished with their loved ones. Children are turning salty toward law enforcement as they observe how their parent is being treated and another cycle is evolving. America wake up. WE NEED NEW LEADERSHIP.

Everyone makes mistakes and lockin them up for 10 plus years is too much and inmates with drug charges get more time than ppl that kill other ppl...these inmates deserve a second chance!

I think parole should come back, inmates are serving too much time, & the prisone system is unfair. The inmates in all the prisons in Virginia are literally starving. They get enough food to exist , & most inmates are locked up 7-24, some inmates never see sunshine or get a breath of fresh air. They are inmates , but thgey are humans also, so please bring parole back, every one deserves a second chance .

I agree 1000% the current legislation that imposes these sentencing guidelines needs a complete overhaul. There needs to be a change on the entire Virginia legal process. A federal oversight committee needs to oversee tens of thousands of cases where people went to prison when others didn't for the same crime when clearly, those who avoided jail time in some cases had committed a worse offense. There is too much power and digression giving to these judges. You could face severe jail time in Virginia if the judge is having a bad day or if he or she wants to make an example out of you. So much for sentencing guidelines. How is sending a citizen who committed a Non-Violent offense to prison for years helping? when he or she is stripped of most of their rights, lose their job, career, gets stripped of their family, cause irreparable psychological damaged to their children, put them in an overcrowded state prison with hundred of other drug using, mentally disturb repeate offenders, and make them work for pennies suppose to help? How is this in any way an effective way to teach or correct the individual who committed these offenses? putting someone in a homeless situation with no hope and robbing them of their moral and dignity is causing severe psychological irreparable damage. the probability of someone going back to prison is extremely high because the current system all it does is institutionalize the individual, it does not teach nor correct the problem. stop wasting taxpayers money. They need to bring back parole so they can release the people that making a life for there selfs and that they can do better in the community and be with there family's and can prove there selfs

I think that this is a great idea for Virginia. There are many offenders that have cleaned up their acts while incarcerated and want to better themselves in some form or fashion. Everyone deserves a second chance and yes at times more than a third chance. Nobody deserves to be taken away from their family let alone the job loss the situation creates. Implementing programs is a good deal.
