“Memorial” was named in honor of self-less sacrifice. The new name honors selfish conceit: no-one believes the lies about honoring ALL veterans with the name change.

Watch the documentary ‘A House of Brick: 100 Years of Memorial Stadium’! After watching this documentary; tell me how you can change the name honoring all of our WWI veterans. I don’t believe Mr. Gies’s dad was a WW I veteran! This name change is very hurtful to me being a granddaughter to a WWI veteran and a daughter to a WWII veteran.

Money doesn’t always win ! Let the Memorial Stadium represent the meaning of all men who served ! Leave it as it was originally named!!

10yr veteran. I applaud Gies gift but not selling out veterans on the renaming. How about a new building or sholarship program in Gies name.

The donation was extremely generous, but we can't make the stadium about one individual's memory.

I also feeel betrayed that this name was “Bought” and not earned. I am not an alumni, but the pride I felt looking and learning about the history of Memorial Stadium has been cheapened by this name change. FYI I still wear my Chief Illiniwick pullover too. Something’s just need to remain the same. L

Return the name to Memorial Stadium and recognize it for what is was originally named for, not for someone's ego.

The Stadiym was built as a memorial to World War I soldiers who made tthe ultimate sacrifice. It is sacred ground. The Stadium should not appear to be dedicated to one individual, no matter how grateful we are for the donation. Isn't there some other was to honor Larry Gies, Sr ?

No one have the right to pay their way to "fame"!! Money should not be flaunted and pay to have your name on something that honors veterans!!!!

Return the name to Memorial Stadium. It’s sad that a name change of a historic football stadium can be bought. Regardless, I will always call it Memorial Stadium. Shane on those that voted to disrespect the legacy and history of this iconic structure.

When the petition is finished it should be sent to Gies too.
