Signing petition to restore name to Memorial Stadium. Just because someone donates a huge amount of money, they should not get to change the name of a stadium that was named to honor veterans. They already have a building- they should back off.

Keep the original name of the stadium to honor the fallen Illini service members. The new name sounds like it's a memorial to the Gies family and those not familiar with the history of the stadium could interpret it that way.

Change it back!!! The new name falsely implies that the stadium is a memorial to Gies, not to the Illini who gave their lives for their country.

How about the 'Gies Tuition Subsidy" instead? Paying for college has become the new 'ultimate sacrifice.'

I wholeheartedly endorse this petition to return to the name Memorial Stadium. It is a sacred name which should never have been changed. The university should find another way to honor Gies for his very generous donation to Illini athletics.

Embarrassing that they sold this name to the highest bidder when Illini Athletics didn't need this damn donation anyway. Greedy, much?

I have found the renaming of the Memorial Stadium simply because Gies donated money to Illini Athletics to be distasteful, disrespectful, and frankly a sign of how seemingly greedy UIUC is for financial donations for athletics despite them making absolutely insane amounts of money through said sports teams, meanwhile neglecting their properties in the community and failing to utilize these insane hundreds of millions of dollars in donations to improve their parts of our community, enrich student lives (have you seen the older residence halls?!) by improving their living spaces or their department buildings or the quality of their academic support.
Change it back and stop running roughshod over the Champaign Urbana community.

As a 1994 graduate, I am deeply disappointed that the University has allowed the name of this sacred structure to be amended.

Tired of the wealthy and corporations plastering their names on public property, buildings, stadiums, etc. That's not philanthropy, that's advertising

The name of the as stadium should be in memoriam of all. Gies already has an entire college dedicated, why the stadium as well?

As a veteran it disgusts me that money can buy changing the name of a stadium meant to honor the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice. His name is already all over the university, he did not need another building with his name on it.
