As a Veteran to put a corporate logo on a memorial to our American heroes is wrong. It was built as a memorial, it is a memorial and it always should remain a memorial.

I lost dear friends Vietnam. Their names are witten on the additional plaques that honor those Illini who have fallen since WWI. They are war heroes. You have to have died in war to have your name inscribed on our sacred Memorial Stadium. Being a veteran means you lived, not died.

Memorial Stadium is a sacred memorial in memory of the alumni killed serving our country. Shame On You for even thinking about altering the name At All, which therefore alters the Whole Meaning of what the stadium stands for, i feel. Out of everything that makes up the U of I, you have Nothing Else you can put the Gies name on for their contribution?!?!?!

The trustees never asked anyone else before they did this, and they won't listen to anyone else now.

I totally support this petition and hope that the name Gies is removed from Memorial Stadium, which was erected to honor the 189 WWI students and alumni who gave their love in the war. That is sacred and should be kept sacred in the memory of thosecwho sacrificed for our freedom.

As a member of the class of '69 and of '71--money should be donated freely with no attachments. Memorial should stand as always.

We agree that honoring our war dead must be the first and only reason for the name Memorial Stadium

Donate all you want for the good of the cause, but to put your name in front is unnecessary, egotistical, and just plain wrong.

Put your name on something that is not dedicated to the memory of soldiers killed in WWI, Mr. Gies.

Memorial Stadium is meant to honor the names of those who gave their lives in service to their country during World War I. No amount of money should allow anyone to buy naming rights to a stadium meant to honor fallen soldiers. It is one thing to renovate buildings with donor gifts, but renaming Memorial Stadium is a disgrace to those whose names are honored on the columns.

Memorial Stadium honors the Fighting Illini who made the ultimate sacrifice fighting for our country. It is about them and that sacrifice not any one person. Please take his name off our Stadium.

It is a disgrace to the brave Illini who gave their lives for our country to have any person’s name on Memorial Stadium. The stadium is a tribute to them and their sacrifice; not a donor and his money.

Memorial stadium is not a venue to be sold to a rich graduate!! George Huff and Bob Zuppke would certainly object to such a travistry by the DIA who lost no time in bringing this issue to an numb Illinois Board of Trustees for quick approval so the gross “GIES” signs could be in place for the homecoming game!!
How DISRESPECTFUL!

Wish this petition was spreading more. Super over rich people buying "naming rights" to public buildings.
