It's absolutely ridiculous there is even a debate about this-the absences should be excused. I'd rather my child be absent from one day of school and nothing happen than to risk even the smallest chance of the threat of violence to be legitimate.

My boys went to a high school in Michigan where guns, violent threats and bomb threats happened several times during the year. Not once was there ever an instance where excusing an absence would have been questioned. Parents protect their children and it is the schools job to back them up.

I have a niece and nephew that go to Robertsdale high school. To me, their safety is as important as my own child. Any parent agrees that safety is far more important than a truancy mark. Please show these parents that they did no wrong. They did what was best.

I shall not say anything more than what most have said already!! My child's life is more important than any attendance policy! I also want to suggest that those from the middle school be excused as well!! CBMS also had officers patrolling the halls and the parking lot causing many of these kids to be frightened!! "No immediate threat"??? Let's wait until it actually does happen and see how administration feels then!!!!

Threats can be real or not. It is better to be safe than sorry... in this day and age, one never knows what, when, where, if something will happen. I am glad nothing transpired today. How does one know if it is safe or not since we have seen things come to pass? I say it is better to excuse this absence than not. Safety is best for all people in our school.

Robertsdale police department specifically stated parents make the best judgement call for your child! That was to keep my child home for complete safety!

If the police dept said early on that it was not a credible threat, then why did they opt to bring in metal detection devices and why did they set up a single Point-of-entry and point-of-exit for all staff/faculty/students/authorities to use today? Why would they go to these lengths if there was no threat? Also, if the school tells me to use my descretion as whether to send my kids to school or not, you can not punish my child for my decision, and marking them absent IS a punishment for my child.

This is ridiculous that the kids are marked absent because their parents felt it was safer for them to be at home instead of chancing the possible danger that could have happened. If the school board cares as much for the students as they say they do then this wouldn't be an issue!

It would have been totally absurd to send the children to school with a threat going on. Their absences should be excused. Their lives matter.
