Disappointing to see a new board "shoot first and ask questions later". This past November wasn't a red wave across the country - maybe in FL it was. This decision will come back to bite this newly elected board as the more educated parents realize the overreach that is occurring and will harm our district.

It's sad that it's come to this. It will be difficult to find another superintendent of Dr. Asplen's caliber. After the debacle of selecting Todd Bowden, we don't need another mistake, but it looks like the damage has been done. Another school district will be lucky to have Dr. Asplen. Thanks to Tom Edwards for standing up for him!

Im very concerned over the one-sided, extremism toward ultra conservative politics and the damage to democracy., starting with our school board.

I would prefer that the board admit their mistake and keep Mr. Asplen on the superintendent. If that happens Ms. Rose can be defeated at the polls next time she runs.

I think we should start a recall of the new board members who called for his resignation. They were not honest in their campaigning and have violated the discussion laws for board members.

The Sarasota community is outraged by the decision to remove Dr. Asplen. How has a nonpartisan appointment become so partisan? The board needs to reflect on its communication with the community and how to repair its relationship..

Last comment from Ms Rose is the superintendent had to go because they could not work together. They are both paid to work together in spite of differences and as I see it it is their differences that brought this on. Our students and all educators deserve this. This is what we teach and should be modeling for our students. Superintendent Asplen is respected and has done absolutely nothing to be treated this way,

As a retired teacher, I am disappointed and dismayed at the behavior of the new school board and their purely political decisions that are not in the best interest of the teachers or students in the Sarasota School District.

How about including the three others who were elected in August on the recall petition as well? They obviously had no intention of giving Dr. Asplen any opportunity to continue his outstanding performance as superintendent.

Get politics out of the school board arena and focus on the students, teachers and learning.
