The teachers & staff @ The Carlton School, have an amazing program in the music & theatre dept. My grandchildren really have fun & learn. I think the Salem needs to invest in their youth via the school systems.

The test scores in Salem are dropping and Salem will need more interventions not less teachers.

The children of Salem deserve better. The teachers, have dedicated so much of their time and effort to teaching the their student shouldn't take on the the largest percentage cuts.

We can certainly do better than this for the children of Salem. They do not need more assessing and diagnosing, they need a rich, engaging environment in which to learn. In the words of my 2nd grader "If they don't have Music or Art or Library why would I even want to go to school anyway?"

I also request that the School Committee push back against the mayor's "allowance" of a 2% budget increase, and that you fight for a larger budget in the coming year. As a Salem resident and parent of a kindergarten student, and a 2 year old, I am very concerned about these budget cuts.

I'm one of those teachers whose position / employment is in danger. :( I appreciate this support, Salem parents---thank you for taking the time to recognize other areas that could use consideration in budget cuts. Getting rid of good, passionate teachers might be easy, but it certainly isn't wise....

We keep losing great families in Salem to other communities because of reasons like this. Save our amazing teachers and we save the great families who are moving out.

I am also concerned with Witchcraft Heights need for an additional 2nd grade teacher. Witchcraft's class sizes and number of classes with each grade has grown each year since the start of the turn around. With some of the largest class sizes in the city, it concerns me that we will have classroom at capacity when other school have classrooms that are half full. This seem extremely unfair to the children at that school. The number of teachers will need to grow after accepting 5&6 whole kindergarten classrooms. As these grade move up, we have a need for additional teachers. It seems to me that a school with smaller class sizes should combine classes and send a teacher to WHES to even out the class sizes across the district.

We as a city can do better than this. Hopefully all the Salem residents, those who have kids in the school and those who don't, will be able to work with the School Committee to arrive at a better solution. This level of (what should have been) a predictable shortfall should not be resolved in a few week's time frame. Slow the process down and arrive at more creative solutions.

Losing some of the BEST teachers Salem or any district could or would ever have

My children grew up in Salem and my grandchildren are in Salem schools now. Please reconsider this plan.

I strongly urge the School Committee to reinstate and keep librarians at ALL the elementary schools, not just those with large numbers of upper income students. In order for children to become readers, they must learn WHY to read, not just how. They also need to learn how to use all the resources at the library to their fullest extent. A library is not just a collection of books that magically takes care of itself. Things must be properly organized and kept up to date in order to remain useful. Will 2 librarians really keep up with shelving, ordering new books and teaching how to navigate through information resources at all 7 elementary schools?
