The scale of this response has forced the council to acknowledge our movement. I have already drafted a formal request for a new meeting with the planning committee to address these concerns directly.

Perfectly legitimate business, and no valid reason to turn this down. People will gamble if they want to online, at least if it's in a betting shop it is contained. Nobody under the age of 18 will be inside anyway and as far as I'm concerned the council have a duty to protect children - not fully grown adults.
More feet on the street can't be a bad thing. And if it's a 'bad influence' on kids then what are the pubs 100m up the road then?
If people don't place bets in a shop on the street consequently bringing business to the town centre they'll do it online which will cause more money to leave the county - no brainer methinks!
was a bookies there before,this one is just up to date,stupid decision which suprises me not in the slightest
If it is not a bookies then this premises will lie empty for ever! All local business' had the chance to rent it out and nobody came forward. Im sure another empty building on the street would look delightful! NOT! Give them a chance for flip sakes!! They are trying to run a business and create jobs in Orkney!
Loved my yearly bet on the Grand National!
would like to see a betting shop back in Kirkwall again.

miss the last one, its up to each individual if they want to bet or not. would be well used.
