tHIS IS THE LAST THING mONROE NEEDS... HOW ABOUT A MOVIE THEATRE FOR THE KIDS OR MORE MOM AND POP CLOTHING STORES...THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER THINGS THAT THE CHILDREN IN MONROE NEED...MINI BUSES TO HELP TO GET THEM AROUND AND HAVE FUN..WE HAD THEM IN WESTPORT WHEN I WAS GROWING UP ...IT WAS THE BEST THING THAT HAPPENED TO US KIDS BACK THEN...NO WALMART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Monroe does not need a big retailer like Walmart, Their stores are neat and clean at first. Then after a whilethe staff is cut back the store looks like a dump and there are more peole bussed in from out of town than who lives here. Not sur eof the tax benefits, but once you let a corporation like Walmart in...the we have sold ourselves out . We no longer can hang onto the small town close community. It is an illusion. Costco,Bjs yes..walmart big NO.

I wholeheartedly agree that having Walmart come to Monroe would be a colossal mistake. Their business practices negatively affect their workers (minimum wage, no benefits; they actually ENCOURAGE workers to go on welfare, they don't promote women to managerial positions), the towns they're located in (independent mom and pop stores will no longer be able to exist), their suppliers (they strong-arm suppliers into charging such low prices that they barely break even), and nearly everything they sell is made overseas in pitiful working conditions. Monroe really would be selling out if it allowed this to happen. We desperately need to promote our small town character - this does this opposite.
