Grandchildren attend Shenandoah County schools

Moving 5th grade to Middle Schools and 8th grade to High Schools will relieve overcrowding. The use of telecommunications to schools without AP classes. I know through experience with my son some Univ. will only take 1 or 2 AP classes plus the student has pay to take test. If the student doesn't score high enough the Univ. won't take the class. Plus, all three high schools over the years have had classes the others have not. Any one from the Northern/Central could have done a better job at drawing boundaries to make sure it was fair.

Just as many of you that are against this, there are the same for it. I find it funny that this county continues to allow what has been the norm for 30 years dictate what happens in 2016. Consider yourselves lucky because you go outside this county you may find yourself with a letter stating your new school. This discussion has not been rushed it is just that most of you are just now paying attention. The school board decided in 2014 to start looking at how this problem could be addressed. And if the norm continues then Stonewall down the road will not exist. We get less funding year after year because we have less students. I will be a parent of a Stonewall kid for 21 years and I am fed up with the nonsense on this. Long after many of you are gone I will still be here as a southern end parent and equitable education is my main concern. And right now we don't have it.

I understand the Broadway/Timberville are in Rockingham County, I was using them as an example. They have the additional elementary schools to prevent the over crowding. Shen Co, needs to look at doing this as one of their options.

It seems that with so many tax payers against this boundary change, that the Board of Supervisors and the School Board need to take another look at this!!! They are elected officials and are there to listen to the community that elected them. One can hope they have there ears open that this needs to be Deferred until a better solution for the community can be determined.

Broadway/Timberville are in Rockingham County. The new school needs to be in Toms Brook to alleviate the crowding at WWR and SHES. When I was in school here there was an elementary school in Toms Brook in a really cool old school building. Don't know why they closed it.

Move the 5th grades into the middle schools...leave lines alone!

I have a child that requires special attention and she's progressed a lot through out the years she's comfortable with the teachers and I'm afraid to take her from that.

There is no way to please everyone...think about the kids. I sat on board meetings years ago when Dr Rowland first came in and wanted to fix this issue. My daughter is an adult now and nothing has changed. Bryce or Connicville or Edinburg kids can be moved to Stonewall. Strasburg needs second schools built. Strasburg needs a builders tax applied to any further building projects that come in. One specified for handling growth. There is no growth on Stonewall end ...send the closest towns to them. Kids will adapt. Putting too many kids in a room or no window janitors closets is aweful. Many kids can't even get lunch. These kids deserve a good environment to learn. It's time the county comes off some emergency funds.

I'm not fond of the boundary changes, but many people are saying, "Let's move the 5th grade to the middle school and the 8th grade to the high school!" That would be an incredibly difficult for teachers to deal with, and it would be more difficult if we moved only the fifth grade to the middle school. If we moved only fifth grade, the SBO would have to eliminate the related arts classes so there would be room for the fifth grade. Would you rather your kids go to a different school, where they could take any of their wished electives/related arts that they want, or would you rather them stay at the same school and have no electives? Keep that in perspective. Moving the grade levels could sacrifice another teacher's job. Also, many teachers would have to rearrange where their classroom is in the school. That is not an uncommon thing to do, but if the majority of the teachers would have to rearrange, that would be difficult. I'm not saying that I think the boundary change is the best option, because I'm not, but people need to think of what would need to be taken in effect if they did something else, such as moving the grade levels around.

Enforce the current boundaries and move 5th grade to the middle schools as they were designed for in the first place! This alleviates the concerns of the impact on the kids being sent to different high schools than they had anticipated. It also alleviates the concern over buses as routes will not change. As for those that are concerned over a 5th grader being at the middle school, I have a few things to say: 1. The busses carry kids of all ages and kindergarteners are exposed to high schoolers. This never concerns anyone, so what is wrong with a middle school housing 5-8 grade? 2. the middle schools are designed with separate learning areas, so the 5th graders could be kept on their hall and pretty much never see an older student during the school day. That worked when I was in Jr. High and 6 the grade was moved up to create middle school. We never saw a 6th grader in the building as they stayed on their hall.

Costs versus benefits priorities on a line item basis should be set. Special emphasis should be placed on the waste in sports programs. The key here is that there are no jobs available in these fields, so in any priority list they should be located at the bottom.

Precipitous moves to change boundaries are poorly motivated and the whole issue needs to be further studied with the application of data and models to make the decision more rationale and less political.
