We are a group of citizens who are calling on the Provincial government to reconcile the provincial mask mandate for school aged children to include the following –

1. Prohibit, or make optional the practice of wearing a mask while outdoors (i.e.- recess or outdoor gym)

2. Prohibit, or make optional the practice of wearing a mask during any organized physical activity indoors.

3. Recognize that the World Health Organization advises against children wearing masks during sports and physical activity. Coronavirus disease (COVID-19): Children and masks (who.int)

4. Encourage organized sports and physical activity without masks to maintain and promote the physical and mental health of children in the community.

Spring and Summer are soon approaching and we will begin to see a rise in temperature. Concerning is the idea that children will continue to engage in physical activity while wearing masks outdoors in hot temperatures. This practice may compromise the safety and well-being of children.
