I choose to live downtown so I can save money on NOT taking public transport and save time by not having to commute. Why is it that students who live at home and have a fraction of my expenses, also have their transit subsidized? Can someone subsidize my rent? Thanks.

The RSU was pretty biased and used food and merchandise as a way to sabotage voting process. I live 30km+ away from ryerson and I already have to pay $500 out of my own pockets for my tuition so having to pay an extra $560 for this service which I will not use is absurd.

I completely agree with this. Only 42% of the population voted and its not fair!

I use the TTC yet I still feel it would be unfair to all the students who don't, hence why I feel compelled to sign and help this issue move forward.

I already spend $1440 per semester on GO fares. I walk from Union Station everyday to save money instead of taking the TTC. I don't think it is fair that I don't have the option to save money where I can.

I don't use the TTC enough for this to justify $282 a semester being spent to the TTC. I take the GO and it is already expensive enough, traveling from my hometown.

This pass is not fair, it's ridiculous because I only go to school three times a week and that puts at least a hundred more dollars on my transportation expense that I don't need. I want the right to opt out.

TTC is not my only method of transportation. I use GO, YRT, VIVA as well as TTC. However if I were to restrict both my commute to and from school using only the TTC just to make use of the U-Pass, I would actually still need to pay for the TTC and here's why. Since I live in Markham, I'm required to pass Steeles during my commute to and from school. The bus that does this is the 68. When you board the 68 you can tap your presto, however if you are exiting at a stop and the bus has passed Steeles either northbound or southbound, you need to supply an extra cash supplement. This is from TTC's website: "Travelling from York Region to Toronto: Pay fare using TTC fare and YRT fare plus (YRT fare or TTC fare plus cash supplement) Travelling from Toronto to York Region: Pay fare in Toronto with a PRESTO card or TTC fare. When exiting the bus in York Region, pay your YRT fare using YRT fare or TTC fare plus cash supplement" In summary, the U-Pass restricts me to one form of transportation when I use a different method everyday based on time and mood and I would still have to pay extra on top of the cost paid through tuition. I would like to opt-out.

Living a 10 minute walk from my classes, it makes no sense for me to pay a extra $500+ for tuition

I feel I’m being forced to pay for something I don’t need or want. And I seriously am sick of paying extra money. So mad to the point I’m considering leaving ryerson.

I do not want to pay extra tuition fees. I do not use the ttc that often

As a GO transit user, transit is expensive enough without the ttc pass.

Students who disagree with the outcome of a referendum or the way it was promoted are able to challenge it! I am thinking to drafting up a written challenge, if any of you would like to add a testimony of your opinion to solidify our dissatisfaction to this decision, please reach out!

An Opt Out will never happen. Straight Up, unless the TTC is cool with losing money it's just wishful thinking.
