Opposition to Penman Springs Cannabis Cultivation, Processing and Mfg Facility/SLO BF

OPPOSED TO THE SLO-BF CANNABIS PROJECT ON PENMAN SPRINGS ROAD AND WHY.

We are already suffering from water shortage and depleted water basins. Wine and cannabis consumption vs the lives in our community. What will we do when we have no water to really exist or that our community can afford. Paso Robles is starting to look run down because home owners cannot afford to have the beautiful yards we once had, instead we have dead grass, rock, bark or WEEDS. Our town can not exist only for the wealthy, it takes all of us to make our community.

I also oppose marijuana legalization. I have seen too many young people grow up using pot and they never got any smarter or motivated. I have worked with young people and fought against their alcohol and drug use for years. Anything that legalizes something that harms people (especially our youth) is totally wrong. We are already driving on the roads with impaired people. B. Wilson

I lived close on Penman Springs Rd for 50yrs and the wineries lowered our well so this a cannabis facility will be a terrible detriment to the neighbors and their quiet way of life.

Yes I am a resident of SLO County. There are far too many grow farms being proposed in Rural/Residential Development Areas. Too close to homes and schools. Bringing in a criminal element and a huge fire risk. This is not what SLO County represents. Stop approving Cannabis grow farms NOW!

I oppose the cannabis grow facility. We do not have the water to support any additional farming than what is already going on. I also do not agree with the any cannabis legalization it’s not good for the community and for our kids it produces a lazy unmotivated individual and we have enough of that going on already. I live within the city limits of Paso Robles.

I oppose the cannabis cultivation and processing facility on Penman Springs. This is a small rural community with residents living close by who will be negatively impacted. Increased water use on our crippled water basin, odors produced by these environments are horrendous, and the value of the crop at harvest time requires maximum security and attracts criminals to our region. This is not an appropriate location for a facility like this.

I oppose to Penman Springs Cannabis Cultivation, Processing Cannabis SLO land use permit for many reasons. Cannabis cultivation comes with a MASSIVE carbon footprint taking up an enormous amount of electricity. With all the push to go all electric how is the grid going to handle all of this growing as the industry expands. In California, indoor marijuana grows account for 8% of all household electricity and that number is climbing. Four plants take up the same amount of electricity as running 29 refrigerators. California is struggling with water shortages. Water is precious, ONE marijuana plant takes 6 gallons of it every day. That means a square mile of marijuana plants consume nearly 1 billion gallons of water during prime growing seasons. In addition to the negative effect to our available water resources this industry produces a substantial amount of nasty runoff into streams and ravines. Health is a serious concern that the world experienced with Covid 19. Cannabis cultivation produces LOTS of stench. It smells like skunks and many people find they cannot enjoy the outdoors around it, and even feel physically ill. Risks associated with regular growing of cannabis include mold, spores, fungus and pesticides. People living in these surrounding with any type of respiratory illness could be adversely affected. Honestly, who would want to live near a cannabis cultivation facility? At minimum, cannabis operations may attract individuals of ill reputation. Remember, many legal growers did it illegally for years, and they still have strong networks of criminal friends. What is the ultimate “public good” of imposing a serious neighborhood blight and being forced to tolerate cannabis cultivation and production next door? No aspect of it. Decline this permit.

I am a resident of SLO County and have a second home near the proposed facility.

Water and environment is to precious to waste on weed.

My concerns are for water usage and the air quality (smell) that this facility will have on our community.

Please hear our plea to protect our properties and our children!

The type of operation is solely suited to areas that are at least 15 miles from any residential, farming, agriculture situation. I have seen the exasperating, debilitating, onerous results of an operation such as this in Ventura County . Please do not allow this projectt

I completely oppose a commercial Marijuana operation proposed by the Oak Shores Community.

This is a pristine rural area of rolling hills, oak trees and wild animals. A pot farm here? It doesn't belong and will bring unwanted traffic, unlawful people, uncontrollable fertilizer runoff with no benefit to surrounding residents.

My wife and I are totally opposed to this or any of the cannabis operations within close proximity to residential communities. Not to mention the extreme fire danger this type of manufacturing and harvesting process in known to create.

I strongly oppose use of this land for a cannabis facility. It is an entirely inappropriate location for many reasons. I will write a letter
