Opposition to City of Lowell Zoning Ordinance

There is no way that having a third or fourth student in an apartment will cause any problems or make the apartment unliveable , or any other reason. Students pay enough money for tuition, and then they have to pay rent, food, utilities and other expenses. Havon 3 or four people in a three or four bedroom apartment helps them all to afford the rent and makes for a good atmosphere in the apartment. Why the city council would want to hurt lands who have been following the laws, and have been doing everything right is beyond me. This is a bad bill and I am 100% against it. Leave the landlords alone, and try concentrating on repaving all the bad conditions on most of our city's streets and roads, and take care of the old Lowell High School which you voted down construction of a new one in your neighborhood, which now is going to cost the residents of Lowell millions more dollars in repairs, updates and ridding rodents! Very poor decision on the city councold part not voting for a new high school, and this bill will only hurt landlords. Vote this bill down, or toss it out because it is an assinine idea!

Oppose this BS law. Its discriminatory and illegal. Let students rent off campus and let people rent to whomever they choose. This is still the United States

Anti consumet

The last time I looked, this is still the United States of America. What right does a university or a city have to determine where free citizens can or cannot reside? These students are not minors and are entitled to the right to decide for themselves. Homeowners pay so much in taxes, maintenance, insurance, etc. What happens when they can no longer afford their homes and are forced to sell and the same happens to future homeowners? The limited renting at the university will become a luxury few can afford. Without off-campus housing, these students will go elsewhere which means far less enrollments. Abandon this ridiculous proposal which is self-serving and will result in chaos.

Tons of students will be homless. Landlords will be out of business. This is a horrible, greedy proposal.

Soon after getting married my husband and I rented near UML North Campus. It likely that this proposed change would not affect couples similar to us. Still we were two students living in the same apartment. (My husband worked full-time while finishing up his BS. I was also working on my BS too.)

There will be a student housing disaster next year if this is passed.

This is ridiculous. Why so the University can make all the money. No way!

I would not have been able to afford to go to UML if I did not save thousands of $ a year by living off campus in an apartment with roommates. This is ridiculous especially with the lack of housing UML has and how expensive it is.

This city is always coming up with absurd ideas, spend that time coming up with ideas on how to run the city more effective and efficient. If you plan on implementing this law for students than you should also apply to other residents that rent property in the city.

My friends and I share an apartment in Lowell and some of us planned on staying here after graduation. We’d have to move out of Lowell if this law gets passed.
