CDHBC's mandate is to protect the public. Part of protecting the public is ensuring confidence in the public that detail hygienists have continuous, comprehensive professional liability insurance coverage. If we want our College to consider approving other providers as it has in the past, it seems reasonable to approach the College with proof that other providers reflect the same comprehensive level of liability coverage that BCDHA and other provinces' associations offer. It would be helpful to have a comparison chart showing the details of BCDHA's insurance versus other popular liability insurance coverage companies that Canadian dental hygienists use (DH Pro and CDSPI seem to be popular choices). The comparison chart would need to source the information so it could be checked, of course.

Dentists have options as to which insurance carrier they choose. I think we should be able to choose also. Thank you.

We should have the right to choose which insurance we would like to use.

CDHA does absolutely nothing for me. I am not able to get their extended health benefits and so I opted not to get the membership. I would rather pay $100 than $366. I could use the extra to pay for what I can not get from the CDHA. Forcing a monopoly on us is totally wrong. I believe that our college has gone down hill in the last 10 years as the new board is not made up with experienced hygienists or who have any experience in the operator's chair. They even put themselves in a office where they are not open to us to come in and see how things are going or available to come in and chat about our concerns. They now have a locked office where you need to be buzzed in. This is NOT to the betterment of our profession at all it is just a money grab plain an simple. If this is mandatory give us retirement benefits or other usable benefits.

Sounds like a monopoly.

We deserve to make the choice as to which insurance provider we wish to use for our malpractice insurance. It's completely ridiculous that we are being forced to use only one option for a ins provider.

I see no benefit to having aCDHA membership, and it's costing us more money, it's not like they are creating us a union to have retirement, health benefits for our sore arms through the CDHA for things we care about; no we have to pay more with no wage increase and its forced.

CDHA says that the Association fee combined with the malpractice insurance is $366 There will be zero breakdown if an RDH wants the insurance only.. CDHBC registrant fee $495 in 2015. What are we getting for the above monies? Oh my, oh my. They stress the need for us to be competent and then some. Yet they feel the need to herd us into obtaining insurance from an Association (non voluntary) to combat the "few" who are not in compliance. A courtesy communication, from those who have the master list of previous registrants, to those whose busy lives may have lead to a missed deadline would be of benefit. College - protects the public from possible harm by registered dental hygienists Association - advocates for the registered dental hygienists Have the boundaries "blurred"?

I prefer freedom of choice! DHPro is a better deal. The Competition Board has now referred the case to the Monopoly Division. This whole issue is under government investigation.

They never ask us what we would like to do, they instead just take control and force us into decisions or changes that they make on our behalf even though we aren't consulted. We didn't ask for these changes, nor did we want them implemented in the first place. We pay them to obtain our license every year but they seem to have become power hungry and keep trying to make unwanted changes to our profesion...ex. QAP, not being able to provide treatment to a spouse, and now the streamlined renewal.

I just switched to DH pro because I have never used anything that the insurance offered (benefits etc) except for the malpractice insurance and bc I was supposed to save at least $300 a month and now have to pay ridiculous prices for something that I will not use is not okay. This is a monopoly just like the QAP

I was very disappointed with CDHBC when they introduced the mandatory written exam, to the point that I chose to renew as a non-practicing member after keeping my practicing membership for 10yrs post cancer treatment/disability issues. If this mandatory payment to BCDHA is not stopped, I will likely stop paying all together.
