Opposition to Case Number Z1500040, North River Village

Hello. This is a terrible area for an enormous shopping center and more housing. It is too close to an elementary school, too close to the Eno River, and the roads can't handle the additional traffic. We already have multiple grocery stores nearby (2 Food Lions, 2 Krogers, and a Harris Teeter) and we don't need anymore. The people who live in North Durham love trees and nature (that's why we chose to live here!) and we want to leave it undisturbed. Find a new location for this proposed 30 acre monstrosity.

Please leave the zoning as is and encourage the developer to find another plot that is already zoned commercial.

Move it all out Roxboro before Bahama where neighborhoods and schools won't be bothered.

Against the rezone! Please revitalize existing commercial. No need for more sprawl in the vicinity of the beautiful Eno!

I would love to see this development in an area already zoned for commercial use. I am adamantly opposed to this type of development in a residential area and in particular one that is so close to The Eno. This river has always been a main attraction in N Durham and most of the community was originally built around this natural resource. It is a source of recreation, a natural habitat for many forms of wildlife and provides drinking water for thousands of people. Why would we risk ruining that? I live at the intersection of Kendridge and Hideaway Ln (which used to be Latta Rd Extension before the development of LattaMoor).... so this is basically my back yard. We still have deer, foxes, groundhogs, rabbits, and other small wildlife creatures that run through our yard and we're in the city limits!!!!! How often do you see that in big cities? I moved to this area 12yrs ago precisely because of the natural beauty. I urge you NOT to destroy that with big commercial development.

I love the idea of planned growth and development in Durham, NC. I am concerned about the safety of children who attend the nearby elementary school, the increased traffic in the area, the impact of the proposed project on the environment and surround neighbors. There are many commercial sites that are vacant along Roxboro Road and other areas north of Durham that would be a better fit for the proposed project. There is little increased quality of life to be gained from the proposed project in the proposed site. I ask you to VOTE NO to rezone this area to mixed use.

I am opposed to the rezoning of this property. While I love the idea of encouraging more businesses to N Durham, there are too many empty shopping centers that could be revitalized for the same purpose.

Rezoning will aggravate already-jammed traffic patterns in the area without adding much value, especially to add yet another grocery store to this area. To echo so many others, revitalize existing commercial space instead, please!

That is not the place for such a development. Do what they're doing downtown, revamp the existing.

We don't need this....I moved to the county over 30years ago and if I wanted the city I would have moved there...put it in Treyburn...

I'm opposed to the rezoning of this area, when there is a need for more housing and there is appropriate, empty retail space throughout our community. Additional commercial development would contribute to additional traffic challenges and unanticipated environmental problems for the fragile Eno River ecosystem. I am a lifelong Durham resident that purchased my home for the unique benefits offered by convenience and natural beauty. The rezoning of residential property to permit invasion of commercial development would likely prompt my family's relocation. Please give thoughtful consideration to how this decision will impact our families.

There has been a lot of misinformation about the rezoning. The city has very little control over what happens once the rezoning is a done deal. We need better planning and better decision-making by our city and county officials. Roxboro Rd area, and just a mile up Guess Rd have plenty of real estate. Please protect our precious watershed by keeping this property residential.

Please, please do not re-zone. More important to incentivize commercial ventures to re-purpose abandoned commercial properties and keep our residential areas for residential use.

I do Not want this area rezoned. Already heavy traffic on Guess Rd and Latta. Unsafe area for nearby school. It is for residential and needs to keep that pleasant surrounding!

I support development but not at this location. There are plenty of empty or abandoned lots in North Durham.

rezoning this property, when there are several other properties in the area already appropriately zoned for this enterprise, flies in the face of the whole concept of planning. Stick to the plan!

To the full extent of NC law, which ain't much, let's protect our successful residential and rural areas from more concrete and traffic. The resulting protection to our natural resources is most important.
